Community Representative

During three decades as a senior executive, Eric Marx served as Bank Chief Financial Officer at multibillion-dollar financial institutions - where he led teams responsible for financial planning, risk management, investments and hedging, accounting, internal controls, and strategic business planning. His decades of experience in support of the non-profit community span a range of organizations focused primarily on education and mentoring missions, through which he has served in many leadership positions. Having established a career planning-oriented youth mentoring program matching at-risk high school students with bank staff, Eric personally served as a mentor to a number of students over the years.

Currently, he volunteers as a member of the Utah Micro Loan Fund’s Credit Committee, reviewing/ approving small business loans to entrepreneurs who lack access to traditional bank funding. He is also now serving as an organizing/founding board member of Project UPSTART, a nonprofit 501(c)(4) connected with the Waterford Institute to promote cost-effective school funding to enhance childhood education. Eric previously served three terms as a director on the board of the English Skills Learning Center, where he twice served as Board President. In addition to his ongoing efforts as a volunteer SCORE mentor - through which he counsels both for-profit and non-profit organizations - Eric had previously been an entrepreneur himself, acquiring a 50% stake in an indoor family entertainment and restaurant business, opening a second location, and expanding staff to over 100 employees. In the town where Eric and his family resided in western PA, he served as Borough Treasurer and was then twice elected as Borough Councilman where he chaired the municipality’s Finance Committee overseeing taxes, budgeting, police and public service contracts, pension and other benefits.

Eric has taught college level courses in accounting, finance, micro- and macro-economics, authored a number of articles in professional publications, serves as a guest speaker at various venues, and continues to provide pro bono workshops on a range of topics including: business planning; financial statement and ratio analysis; technology tools for small business, and; governance for nonprofit boards with an emphasis on internal controls.
