This workshop features three training sessions, a light lunch, and networking opportunities. Topics include: volunteer best practices, DSU nonprofit certification, internship in's and out's, how to work with clubs and organizations on campus, and other great tips to help you enhance your experience with volunteers and interns!

Workshop Schedule:
8:00–8:30: Welcome and light refreshments
8:30 - 9:30 - Session One*
9:30–9:45:  Break
9:45–10:45: Session Two*
10:45–11:00: Break
11:00–11:45: Session Three (Internship Outline Work Group)
11:45–Noon:  Break 
Noon–1:30 - Light lunch and round table style networking session for nonprofits, faculty, staff, and students

**Sessions 1 and 2 Details: (Groups will attend one of the following sessions and then switch for the second session.)
- Student Volunteer Presentation by Karyn Wright, DSU-Community Engagement Specialist and Student Service Project Presentation by Anilee Bundy, Director of Student Clubs and Organizations at DSU and Bob Oxley, Instructor of Sociology
- Hands-on discussion and training about internships, including registering on DSU's Handshake Program where nonprofits will submit internship opportunities.

Nonprofit Training Objectives:
- Educate nonprofit organizations on the differences between an internship, service project and a volunteer experience
- Educate nonprofits as to how to create a great internship that is both beneficial to the organization and the student; educate nonprofits on best practices for service projects and volunteer opportunities
- Educate nonprofits as to strategies, timing, requirements, goals, expectations and reporting outcomes DSU has for the aforementioned student opportunities.
- Educate nonprofits about the types of service projects students are participating in and where
- Continue to build upon the valuable relationship and connectivity of Southern Utah Nonprofits and DSU

Career Services Training Will:
- Introduce Handshake and have all the nonprofits sign up for an account
- Provide technical training on Handshake, if needed.
- Teach about internships and ways to create an effective program that will get noticed!
- Have all nonprofits draft an initial outline of what their internships could look like
- Present on these to the group to receive feedback from Career Services and their peers
- Lead a discussion outlining the outcomes students can expect from participating in any of the nonprofit internships.

Karyn has lived in Washington County for the past twenty-five years, and has spent the past fifteen years coordinating volunteers on and off campus. Her experience has benefited many organizations and she is actively building a volunteer center, serving DSU and Washington County, that will benefit local agencies and needs in the community and at Dixie State University.
