Utah Tax Restructuring and and Equalization Task Force

UNA has been advocating on behalf of your nonprofit and the entire sector at several of the town halls hosted by The Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force. We have spoken boldly on how important nonprofits are to Utah and what tax reforms are needed to strengthen our organizations. Legislators have taken note, but it is time for you to add your voice. Please support the Recommendations to The Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force from Utah’s Charitable Nonprofits

Act now! Complete the following steps:

Step 1: Have your Executive Director/CEO or Board Chair sign your organization on to the letter to the Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force.

They can add your organization by emailing Collyn Mosquito at by 5:00 pm on August 15th. Please feel welcome to send your nonprofit network the link to this webpage and encourage them to participate.
The letter asks the task force to adopt four specific recommendations:
  1. Protect existing state charitable nonprofit tax exemptions.
  2. Continue providing resources to charitable nonprofits working with state agencies, through state grants and contracts, to fill the unmet needs of Utah’s various communities.
  3. Decouple the State Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) on nonprofits from the Federal UBIT and match the UBIT rate to the new income tax rate, if applicable, and
  4. Include a non-itemized charitable giving tax deduction to incentivize giving among all Utahns.
Your organization’s signature will give us the momentum we need to ensure the state passes these necessary reforms that support and strengthen our organizations.

Step 2: Contact Members of the Task Force and Your Legislators

Call, text, write, and/or tweet task force members and your legislators about the recommendations, why you support them, and ask that they are included in tax reform legislation! (You'll find their contact information below.)
