On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees released the text of the omnibus spending bill, officially titled the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018. This 2,232-page bill did not include a provision to repeal or weaken the longstanding Johnson Amendment, the law that protects charitable nonprofits, houses of worship, and foundations from partisan politics. (In a word: Phew!) You can learn more about the nonprofit community's efforts to protect nonprofit nonpartisanship and what is sure to come here. (You can also read the omnibus spending bill here.)

People across America who love nonprofits joined together to protect nonprofit nonpartisanship.

It's not over. We may need to rally again. The well-funded special interests who tried to gut the Johnson Amendment will try again. And we will join together - again - to protect our nonprofits.
