We are seeking to add a Forensic DNA Analyst to our growing team!
Position Summary: The Forensic DNA Analyst position directs the processing of laboratory samples to generate a result, analyzes and interprets those results, reports the conclusions of those interpretations, and testifies as to their report in applicable legal proceedings. Those in this role are expected to adhere to all roles, training, continuing education, and educational requirements as outlined in the Federal Bureau of Investigation Quality Assurance Standards (FBI QAS).
Primary Responsibilities: Overview of Responsibilities
• Perform scientific examination, all laboratory functions and DNA analysis of biological evidence collected in connection with death and criminal investigations, including comparison and interpretation of STR DNA profiles as well as statistical analysis as applicable
o DNA interpretation and analysis (STR, SNP, NGS, mtDNA) required as needed
o Non-criminal casework (private DNA testing, research, genealogy studies etc) required as needed
• Authoring a laboratory report as a result of testing, interpretation and analysis
• Provide Forensic DNA technical and/or administrative peer review
• Testify as an expert witness in court proceedings
• Participates in continuing education (workshops, training courses, conferences, etc.) as per laboratory policy and applicable accreditation, certification requirements
• Maintain at least a minimum level of productivity as determined by relevant management staff
• Participates in the proficiency testing program
• Participate in implementing and maintaining the quality assurance and quality control program, as well as laboratory safety, to ensure the integrity of analytical testing and results
Desired Qualifications: Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in a natural, physical, or forensic science area
• Successful completion of twelve (12) semester (or equivalent) credit hours from a combination of the following subject areas: Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Statistics and/or Population Genetics
• Three (3) years of laboratory experience obtained at a laboratory where DNA testing was conducted for the identification and evaluation of biological evidence in criminal matters as a qualified DNA analyst on human DNA testing on forensic samples
• Preference given to those that hold certification from the American Board of Criminalists (ABC) in an applicable field such as Biological Evidence Screening (ABC-BIO), Forensic DNA (ABC-DNA), and Molecular Biology (ABC-MB)
Benefits / Why Work With Us: Hours/Compensation
This position is a full-time salaried position. Compensation is determined by experience and ranges from $55,000-$70,000 a year. This is a hybrid position with some duties required to be performed at our laboratory located in Murray, Utah; and some duties being able to be completed remotely. Health, dental, and vision benefits are available.
