Position Summary: Oversee the quality and delivery of services for foster parent training and ensure that they are prepared to parent at a therapeutic level. Work closely with the Refugee Foster Family Development Lead to create a formalized structure specific to Level II and Level III Therapeutic care.
Primary Responsibilities: Responsibilities include:
1. Become an expert on the Pressley Ridge evidence-based therapeutic foster parent curriculum.
2. Co-teach all pre-service training sessions with the Foster Family Development Lead and document parent participation.
3. Review feedback surveys and implement suggestions.
4. Improve retention of families through the training and licensing process by helping them overcome barriers to completing the training, engaging with them, and problem solving as needed.
5. Assess trends in placement disruption and ensure that the curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of the parents and is specific to parenting refugee teenagers from different cultural backgrounds.
6. Supplement the curriculum as needed.
7. Find creative ways to make the training engaging and to ensure that parenting skills can be applied and practiced.
8. Adapt teaching style to the learning styles of the foster parents.
9. Review foster parent “homework” and check for understanding; facilitate “make-up trainings” for foster parents who are late or absent from trainings.
10. Work closely with the Foster Family Development Lead to develop internal therapeutic structure for Level II and Level III care.
11. Provide Continuing Education training opportunities for foster parents and for staff.
12. Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and monthly team meetings.
13. Other duties as may be assigned.
Desired Qualifications: Work Environment – inside/outside, office, warehouse, noise, temperature, etc.
1. Work will be performed primarily inside the office but may occur in foster family homes, places of employment, educational institutes, and other locations as needed.
Physical Demands including bending, sitting, lifting and driving
1. Work requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods, to walk moderate distances and to drive.
2. Driving is required in this position.
Skills, knowledge, and abilities:
1. Works independently in a safe, appropriate manner. Demonstrates both problem solving and problem prevention.
2. Displays sensitivity to the needs of the youth, foster families, co-workers, volunteers, and others with whom the staff interact.
3. Proficiency in English oral and written communication.
4. Ability to confidently conduct trainings.
5. Must maintain confidentiality.
6. Proficiency in computer skills required for the position including Zoom and the online database used by the program.
7. Personal qualities of respect, compassion and graciousness in helping the foster families as they support youth to succeed in the United States.
Education, training, and/or experience:
1. Bachelor’s in Social Work, Education, or related field preferred.
2. Foster care experience, particularly concerning licensing requirements and family support.
3. Experience teaching and training adults.
4. Experience with refugees and teenagers preferred.
Background Screen/BCI requirement
1. Must be able to pass a BCI/FBI background check.
Licenses, certifications, and credentials
1. Current Utah driver’s license, proof of auto insurance with minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per occurrence, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, a personal vehicle, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety requirements.
Position status and expected schedule
1. This position is non-exempt. The general schedule will consist of 40 hours to be worked on Monday through Fridays between the hours of 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Rotating weekend on-call schedule.
