A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GRANT WRITER

Under the supervision of the Chief Impact & Strategy Officer, the Grant Writer will assist with identifying new funding and maintaining existing opportunities through local, state, and federal grants, partnerships with businesses and other philanthropic sectors, and obtaining funds from public and private sources. Also, the Grant Writer assists their supervisor in submitting reports for grants, updating the development calendar, and attending grant training and meetings in the community. The Grant Writer is an active member of the Development Team and participates in the planning and execution of internal and external volunteer and special events, which include but are not limited to sponsorship and donation requests.
Primary Responsibilities: COMPETENCIES FOR A GRANT WRITER

Ability to craft, construct, and submit a useful grant application
Ability to research, identify, and match funding resources to meet specific needs
Complete organizational development as it pertains to grant-seeking
Ability to practice standards of ethics with grant writing
Post-award grant management practices sufficient to inform effective grant design and development
Ability to develop methods and strategies that cultivate and maintain relationships between funders
Initiative and data-driven
Process and detail-oriented
Evocative and story-telling writing skills
Practical thinking and persistence
Ability to be professional at all times
Sensitivity to the needs of families from various economic and ethnic backgrounds
Desired Qualifications: REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors in English, Public Administration, or similar
Basic accounting knowledge to prepare budgets for grants
Confident command over differing writing styles (APA, MLA, etc.)

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

2+ years as a Grant Writer or similar experience
