Position Summary: The Development Director is one of the most senior positions in the organization with an exciting opportunity to build a dream team of their making while helping the organization continue its extraordinary mission-focused evolution. This position will lead efforts to create and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy while building a culture of philanthropy and networking in the community with the Executive Director.
Primary Responsibilities: Provide leadership for planning and executing fundraising activities including: corporate giving and sponsorships, major gifts, individual and planned giving, cultivation and solicitation, donor stewardship opportunities, and overseeing the grant writing, special events, and database management.
Setting strategy, goals, and tactics for the Development team members and vendor partners to execute with daily oversight of the department.
Overseeing day-to-day operations of the department and coaching and managing staff.
Conduct stewardship activities and relationship building with authentic touchpoints for donor relations.
Embracing and integrating new technology tools to further development goals.
Ensuring that our systems are reviewed, organized, and accurate, particularly as it relates to database management and donor acknowledgment/engagement.
Desired Qualifications: Is an experienced, compassionate, and collaborative leader with a commitment to the mission of the Humane Society of Utah.
Has experience creating annual strategic development plans and building a culture of philanthropy amongst staff and Board.
Has demonstrated success in leading teams to raise philanthropic support and steward major gifts.
Has exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong personal integrity, and an ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
Is highly organized and detail-oriented, with management experience to help train the staff on best practices and systems.
Has local relationships and knowledge of the philanthropic and business community or is willing to network to attain those proactively.
