Position Summary: Success in fulfilling the Make-A-Wish Utah mission to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions depends entirely on the effectiveness of its Development team.

Make-A-Wish Utah develops funding support from individuals, organizations, and private foundations to support its wish-granting program. It receives no government aid. Philanthropy and cause-related marketing are its only sources of revenue. As a member of the Development Team, the Development Officer reports to the Director of Development.

Fundraising activities include internal and external events, corporate and individual giving, cause-related marketing, and grants from private foundations.
Primary Responsibilities: INDIVIDUAL GIFT FUNDRAISING – 80%
Qualify, develop, and maintain year-round relationships with a portfolio of 100-150 individual gift donors or prospects cultivating immediate funding, long-term funding, and planned gifts.
• Build donor relationships through face-to-face cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activity.
• Grow annual revenue from individual donors through relationship-based fundraising and strategic moves management, emphasizing long-term stewardship and engagement.
• Create individualized engagement and stewardship plans with giving goals for each portfolio donor based on giving history, relationships, and the organization's knowledge of the donor's giving potential.
• Work with the Marketing Director to consistently refresh Case for Support for donor cultivation meetings.
• Provide regular updates to the Director of Development regarding annual and major gift solicitations, moves management strategies, requests for leadership engagement, and stewardship.
• Prepare for regular portfolio review meetings and moves management discussions in partnership with the Director of Development.
• Recruit and steward individual donors by creating year-round engagement activities to maximize revenue and reinforce donor loyalty.
• Set up solicitation and/or strategic stewardship meetings, including CEO and board members when appropriate.
• Collaborate with the Director of Data Analytics to implement CRM prospect management strategies.
• Identify and communicate potential opportunities and/or relationships to increase the chapter's ability to raise funds and grant wishes.
• Collaborate with the Director of Development and Chief Executive Officer to create giving societies and affinity funds.
• Other duties as assigned.

ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT – 20%
• Work closely with the Stewardship Program Manager to communicate mission impact to donors.
• Implement the Annual/Major Gifts Program, including qualification and solicitation standards, ensuring Program procedures and tools are clear, well-implemented, and effective.
• Assist the Development Director in leading training to develop and strengthen the team’s relationship-building skills.
• Represent Make-A-Wish Utah at community events, including after-hours activities.
• Monitor expense and revenue projections for the Annual/Major Gifts Program against metrics.
• Work closely with the Director of Data Analytics to build systems and reports in CRM that mine data to guide the Development Department function.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Experience with computer systems and databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Raisers’ Edge and/or Salesforce is a plus.
• Working knowledge of the regional philanthropic community is highly desirable.


• BS/BA plus at least 5 years of related work experience in fundraising.
• 5+ years of significant, demonstrated success in developing purposeful relationships, cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting gifts from individuals at all levels of giving and influence.
