In 2022, Girl Scouts of Utah expanded its council-wide initiatives to increase progress in the work of DEIRJ. All members of the council, including new staff members, participate in the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI, LLC), and are given the initiative to increase their personal intercultural understanding and to benefit the organization.
Position Summary: The Membership Support Specialist is responsible for developing and executing effective recruiting strategies designed to raise awareness while providing support to volunteers and teams to ensure the effective delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience resulting in maximum retention with members and volunteers.
Primary Responsibilities: Engaged out in the community away from the GSU office generating leads resulting in membership in assigned areas to meet membership goals and objectives while reflecting the diversity of the area served

Design and implement a comprehensive plan for girl and adult membership growth in targeted areas by researching market data, membership trends, and other pertinent information relevant to designated geographic areas

Seek opportunities and develop relationships with community organizations, corporations, schools, and educators, and faith-based institutions to increase awareness of and participation in Girl Scouting

Actively work with volunteers in recruitment of key volunteer team members

Attend local community activities, cultivate community connections, and direct opportunities for raising awareness of and participation in Girl Scouts
Assist volunteers in marketing Girl Scouting to the greater community

Recruit volunteers to work with girls in a variety of settings using traditional and non-traditional means

Ensure Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scout message of pluralism and diversity to members of the council and the community

Provides excellent customer service and support for adult volunteers and girls in established service units resulting in maximum retention of adult leaders

Provide effective communication between service unit volunteers and council staff, and access to additional support services and resources

Provide support to adult volunteers, including onboarding new troop leaders, attend service area meetings, and offer support with problem solving and conflict resolution

Maintain compliance with GSU and GSUSA policies as well as federal and state regulations while ensuring that the organizational goals are met
Serve as the Girl Scout policy and procedures expert to advise and consult with volunteers providing the program to girls
Model behavior consistent with the Mission and purpose of Girl Scouting

Maintain reporting documents as requested

Perform other duties as required or assigned
Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or three years equivalent experience preferred
Minimum 1-3 years' experience in membership recruitment or sales
Highly organized, ability to multitask, handle pressure, and meet deadlines
Proficient in written and communications skills
Ability to work evenings and weekends is required
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, take initiative, be self-managed, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with conflicting priorities while meeting deadlines is essential
Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse people and volunteers
Willingness to subscribe to the Girl Scout philosophy program
Technical computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, customer relationship management systems (Salesforce experience preferred), and social networking to access media networks as well as to tap into other networking resources
Ability to build and leverage relationships to drive qualified membership and volunteer leads
Have daily access to dependable transportation, valid driver's license, compliance with the council's policy of automobile insurance limits, and a driving record that meets the requirements for coverage of the council's business auto insurance carrier
Ability to work in the field up to 70% of the time and work from Council property (CRC, CUSC, or NUSC) for the balance of the time. Occasional meetings requiring attendance and/or trainings at the Salt Lake Council Resource Center
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit and/or stand for long periods and operate office equipment manually. The employee must be able to routinely lift 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds as this roll will require the set up and breakdown of information booths without assistance
