Utah Community Action is seeking to hire a compassionate person for our full-time Homeless Services Intake Worker. We help staff all Homeless Shelters in Salt Lake County so your location will vary based on the needs of the community as does your scheduled shift. Morning shift is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm and Evening shift is 1:30 pm to 10:30 pm. You'll work 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week.
The wage is $17.59/hour.

YOUR LIFE AS A HOMELESS SERVICES INTAKE WORKER
This full-time social services position with our nonprofit typically works a variable schedule set a month in advance. Travel may sometimes be necessary between the Homeless Resource Centers.
As a Homeless Services Intake Worker, you play an essential role in helping the homeless population find placement in shelters. Under the direction of the Homeless Services Coordinator, you are part of the Homeless Services Team responsible for the intake system for Salt Lake County. You conduct the intake process for placement in a shelter by meeting with homeless clients, collecting their personal information, and verifying their income. After evaluating their needs, you work to satisfy those needs by making referrals to shelters and other services.
Using great discretion, you maintain confidentiality for each client you work with. You display great flexibility to meet the changing demands and expectations of the job. At times, the work can be challenging, but you are always up to tackle any task that comes your way. To keep the operations of our nonprofit running smoothly, you form great relationships with other staff and program partners to keep what's best for your clients front and center. You find great satisfaction in having a job where you see the difference you make in the lives of those you serve.

Desired Qualifications: COMPETENCIES FOR AN INTAKE WORKER
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience with Microsoft Office
Knowledge about data entry and explaining processes to clients
Ability to be empathetic to individuals experiencing homelessness regardless of their ethnic background, gender, or other demographic qualities
Ability to pass a background check and drug test upon hire
Excellent English skills, both verbal and written
Must live in Utah, this position is on-site
Experience working with diverse populations and homeless individuals is preferred, but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. If you can meet these requirements and perform this entry-level social services job described above, we would be happy to have you as part of our team!
