Position Summary: The Ouelessebougou (“Wu-less-ah-boo-goo”) Alliance (OA) is a 37-year-old nonprofit organization that works in partnership with villages in rural Ouelessebougou, Mali, to provide sustainable health and education opportunities. We are currently recruiting to fill the Executive Director role in Utah.

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is the key leadership professional responsible for planning and implementing the strategic work of the Alliance. They must be an energetic, creative, collaborative, visionary individual who brings strong skills in fundraising, leadership, administration, and marketing. This is a hands-on position that includes close collaboration with the Mali Field Director to implement all in-country programs.
Primary Responsibilities: Fundraising (60%)
- Maintain income from current revenue channels (e.g., grants/foundations, major donors and other individual donors, schools, social media channels, events).
- Cultivate new income from current revenue channels and add new channels (e.g., corporations).
- Establish new individual donor relationships.
- Execute a memorable and effective Annual Gala, maximizing revenue and building recognition for OA efforts.

International Management (20%)
- Maintain frequent contact with Mali Field Director to understand program priorities and ensure effective implementation.
- Orient and help prepare Utah expedition groups to ensure successful contributions to program efforts in Mali.
- Facilitate communication between Mali staff and Utah program committees.
- Travel periodically to Mali for administrative and program support, as approved by the Board.

Administration & Supervision (10%)
- Guide and motivate staff and volunteers in carrying out board-approved strategic plans.
- Recruit pro-bono interns from local colleges and universities for specific roles.
- Maintain strict financial oversight and planning, in the U.S. and in Mali.
- Liaise with Board of Directors and Board Executive Committee to facilitate meetings, decisions, and goals.

Marketing & Communications (10%)
- Create and implement effective marketing, outreach, and social media campaigns.
- Stay in regular communication with OA stakeholders, donors, and friends in the most effective ways.
- Be an effective primary spokesperson for OA, orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain relationships with civic groups, schools, and NGOs for networking and partnership purposes.
Desired Qualifications: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in business management, communications, marketing or related field and two years management experience; OR five years related experience in nonprofit management or fundraising.
EXPERIENCE: Fundraising and marketing experience required; nonprofit leadership experience preferred.
SKILLS: Leadership, interpersonal, communications (written and oral), problem-solving, and project-management.
OTHER: International interest and sensitivity required and international experience a plus.
