Position Summary: POSITION SUMMARY
The Immersive Engagement Coordinator is a highly motivated and energetic individual that is committed to integrating education into the guest experience and recognizes the significance of education in fostering community support for the zoo and creating champions for wildlife. The Guest Engagement Coordinator is experienced in creating and providing public programming, has excellent communication and organization skills, along with knowledge of interpretation techniques and basic zoology. This position provides supporting the following areas: onsite interpretation, animal contact areas, tours, themed programming, nature play and maker space, and special events, as well as providing support to other staff members as available. This position follows all animal handling protocols and procedures including the completion of additional animal handling training. The primary focus of this position is developing and coordinating meaningful tour opportunities throughout the zoo and developing and maintaining programming for Wild Utah including the keeper kitchen, animal ambassador meet and greets, nature play, and maker space.
The pay for this job is $19.00 an hour, with the work week being 40 hours a week.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports directly to the Guest Engagement Supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Commitment to the zoo’s mission and conservation efforts.
Ability to work overtime as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintains strict confidentiality.
Assume management of programs, when the programs supervisor is not present. This includes ensuring a high quality, safe, engaging experience for zoo program participants as well as acting as a support and resource for other staff.
Model appropriate behavior and professionalism and be a resource to volunteers, educators, and guests.
Prepared to act as a backup educator in any Hogle Zoo education programming.
Weekend and weekday availability required, including evening hours, to cover programming as needed.
Presents creative, mission-driven, and engaging programming and experiences for all ages.
Assists in training volunteers and seasonal staff regarding public speaking and interpretation skills.
Aids in the development of educational programming for zoo exhibits, theater spaces, special events, and animal demonstrations.
Assists in maintaining and preparing biofacts for interpretive use.
Develops and leads or coordinates any special programming requests as required.
Exercises adaptability in the presentation of programming and the ability to navigate last-minute changes.
Utilizes developmentally appropriate practices that inspire conservation action.
Develops evaluation methods appropriate to programming to measure short and long-term impacts.
Operates audio/visual equipment as needed.
Demonstrates willingness to learn new information.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors both on and off zoo grounds.
Desired Qualifications: REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree in education, environmental sciences, biology, museum studies, theater or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for education.
Prefer at least two (2) years of interpretive experience working with informal science education. Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) is preferred. National Network of Ocean and Climate Change Interpreters (NNOCCI) experience is a plus.

Work Environment
Incumbent performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, which do not generally involve muscular strain, but do require activities related to walking, standing, bending, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform essential functions. Requires lifting of up to 30 lbs.

Sick time accrual: (New employees accrue up to 10 days annually of sick time.) New employees accrue 3.07 hours of sick leave after the first full pay period following the first of the month following 30 days of continuous employment.
Nine paid holidays a year when they occur after the first of the month following 30 days of continuous employment.
