Position Summary: Job Title: Bilingual Prevention Specialist
South Valley Services (SVS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide options to anyone who has experienced domestic violence. We provide counseling, case management, prevention, and shelter to help individuals and families build lives free from violence. Our programs aim to empower individuals to recognize their self-worth and develop the necessary skills to reach their full potential. SVS believes advocacy, prevention, and safety are the primary tools in eliminating domestic violence. To achieve this goal, SVS groups these three strategies into the following service areas:
• The Sanctuary: provides shelter for women, men, and children seeking a safe place away from domestic violence
• Community Resource Centers (CRCs): provide case management and supportive services from community-based locations to make accessing services more attainable
• Education and Prevention informs and educates the public regarding domestic violence and how to recognize, respond, and refer individuals who need services
The Bilingual Prevention Specialist is responsible for assisting the Education and Prevention department in our education and prevention goals and serving the Spanish speaking community. They will assist the department in implementing changes based on recent updates or evaluations on best practices for our presentations, attending community and networking events, organize data responses collected from presentations, assist with educating the community and youth on healthy relationships. They report to the Education and Prevention Director.

CLASSIFICATION: Part-time Hourly (Non-exempt, 20 hours per week)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Directly reports to the Director of Education and Prevention
Primary Responsibilities: DUTIES
1. Maintain notes and documentation on services provided in compliance with Family Violence Prevention and Services Act, Victims of Crime Act, and Violence Against Women Act confidentiality mandates.
2. Complete all necessary administrative paperwork and data entry to meet licensing and program statistical needs.
3. Send a monthly progress report to the Director of Education and Prevention and meet with the Director of Education and Prevention biweekly to discuss progress.
4. Attend coalition meetings as assigned, and lead our COLAVI Coalition (Coalition of Latinos Against Interpersonal Violence) bimonthly
5. Assist with providing educational presentations and workshops to faith leaders, congregations, high school students, college students, teachers, and community members about domestic violence and related topics in Spanish and English, that the Education and Prevention Programs South Valley Services provides; Teen Dating Violence, Healthy Relationships, LAP Program Training, DV101
6. Become an Advocate for services, education, social justice, equity
7. Attend community events (fairs) to distribute information about domestic violence and South Valley Services
8. Responsible for establishing and maintaining professional business relations with other agencies to better serve diverse populations and collaborate with government and community organizations to further spread awareness about domestic violence
9. Translation of documents from English to Spanish and interpretation when needed
10. Assist Interns and Financial Empowerment Specialist when needed
11. Distribute South Valley Services brochures, hotline posters and literature on domestic violence.
12. All other duties as assigned by the Director of Education and Prevention
13. Learn about all departments within South Valley Services and be able to speak on these departments and services offered at community and networking events
14. Be trauma informed and respectful when speaking with members of the community, and complete any required trainings necessary or assigned
15. Ensure completion of assigned tasks and duties.
16. Work closely with the Education and Prevention Team on any special events or projects
17. Participate in Team meetings, and when able, attend South Valley Services trainings and meetings
Desired Qualifications: SCHEDULE: 20 hours weekly, with daily hours being consecutive on either a morning or afternoon schedule

This position is currently WFH when not teaching community presentations, attending community
events, or meetings (as COVID-19 restriction allow). All other work is completed at home, requiring access to internet and a workspace that maintains client confidentiality. SVS will provide a laptop for work use.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to pass a background check
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required, Native Spanish speaker preferred
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook Programs
• Valid Driver License, up to date auto insurance, reliable transportation
• Ability to travel to location of Teen Dating Violence, Healthy Relationship classes and community events, as well as coalition and organizational meetings (as COVID-19 restriction allow)
• Strong public relations skills and able to actively participate in community engagement
• Ability to work sensitively and effectively with various populations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree in human services field or closely related field
OR
• A current college student in the Junior or Senior year in the field of social work, education, behavioral science, or closely related field
OR
• A minimum of one year of experience with case management, working in the field of domestic violence, and/ or experience working with families in crisis.
