Organization's Race, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Statement and Work: Nightingale Foundation is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion as it is the cornerstone to achieving health equity in the communities we serve nationwide.

The United States is experiencing a dire need for nurses in every community. Nightingale Foundation was founded to support this nursing workforce crisis, by equitably increasing access to nursing education for communities nationwide. Nightingale Foundation’s mission and vision is accomplished by partnering with Nightingale College, an accredited, private post-secondary institution of higher learning focused on nursing education, currently offering distance-education nursing programs in 48 out of 50 states.

Together, Nightingale Foundation and Nightingale College are able to access individuals from underserved and underrepresented populations – such as rural Alaska, Native American Reservations, and in socioeconomically impacted regions, and increase access and opportunity to become a nurse, further gaining skills, training, and workforce placement to increase health equity in local communities most in need.
Nightingale Foundation and Nightingale College serve non-traditional student populations, with a goal to increase access and opportunities for individuals from underserved and underrepresented populations to attend and complete their nursing degrees including students in rural areas, BIPOC and male students, first-generation college students, single parents, and socioeconomically impacted individuals. The goal of this program is to provide resources to individuals who have the passion to become a nurse, increasing access to nursing programs and ultimately providing education, training, and workforce placement to future nurses who reflect the diversity and complex needs of the communities they serve.

Data to show the diversity in Nightingale’s student population includes:
• Students reside in 48/50 states in the United States.
• 63% of students identify as non-white.
• 92% of students are over the age of 25, many of which are career changers (nursing is not their first career).
• 50% of students are first generation college students.
• 54% are students with children.
• 92% of students are those who are not first-time college student, nor are first-time, full-time college students.

These student populations are more likely to encounter various barriers to academic success, thus making the resources that Nightingale Foundation provides extremely valuable and much needed.
