We are seeking a part-time Children’s Development Specialist to work with the children of women in recovery. Are you looking for an opportunity to utilize your skills and experience to develop programs for young children? Are you seeking a career path that includes strengthening high-risk families, working in the non-profit sector, and/or helping children heal from abuse, neglect, and trauma? House of Hope utilizes the trauma-informed psycho-educational approach with small groups of young children who are residing with their mothers in residential treatment or attending our outpatient program. The Child Development Specialists collaborate with the clinical team to create age-appropriate interventions and therapeutic groups for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and young school-aged children (6 mos – 8 years) in our children’s day treatment program.
Primary Responsibilities: The successful House of Hope applicant will:
• Make a commitment for a minimum of one year (to avoid disrupting healthy attachment with children)
• Implement a daily group curriculum and adapt therapeutic activities with children of various ages, needs, and abilities
• Rotate as needed between the infant/todder and preschool-aged groups to maximize coverage where needed
• Demonstrate experience/training in social skill building, infant development, childhood trauma, or children’s mental health
• Be self-motivated and show initiative; be able to work independently with intermittent supervision
• Show leadership abilities and competence in teaching/coaching group assistants to implement goals and curriculum
• Have a desire to grow personally and professionally in the social work, mental health, and child development fields
• Possess skills of creativity, patience, energy, and ability to help children learn skills in an engaging, nurturing manner
• Be flexible, trying new things
• Be open to feedback and handle stress calmly
• Be respectfully assertive in their communication skills with children, parents, group assistants, and other staff
• Demonstrate the ability to work as a team to create a safe, nurturing, consistent environment for young children
Desired Qualifications: Do these qualifications match your education, experience, and/or skillset?
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human development or similar field PREFERRED
• Experience working with young children (6 months to eight years old) and high-risk families PREFERRED
• Good basic computer and writing skills for clinical documentation and record keeping
• An understanding of professional ethics and boundaries in the human service field
• Above average problem-solving skills, conflict resolution abilities, and above all, a sense of humor!

Education Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human development (or similar field) preferred
• High school diploma or GED equivalency – required for infant/toddler group

Hours/Schedule:
• Part-time, 28 hours/week
• Between the Hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm, M-F
• One evening per week from 5-7 pm on Tuesday or Wednesday may be required, on rotation

Agency Requirements:
• Non-smoking work site; no tobacco products allowed on site
• Must be 21+ years old
• Must pass an extensive background check
• Must pass a drug screening (results based on federal laws regarding illegal substances)
• If in recovery, must have at least 2+ years of continuous sobriety
• Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 (including booster) or be willing to start vaccination process immediately
• Must get seasonal vaccination against the flu
• Personal, reliable transportation and driver’s license required
