Position Summary: The Program Aide (Bilingual) position involves working with aging and disabled adults in a recreational
therapy environment. This position represents a key caregiver role for a group of assigned clients, for
whom English is a second language (ESL). The Program Aide (Bilingual) will assist with small or large group
daily activities, prioritizing and facilitating the engagement of ESL clients. The Program Aide will further
have a primary role in client transport, so a current Utah Driver’s License is essential. Other responsibilities
include kitchen set up/clean up, meal distribution, and individual assistance in restrooms as needed. The
Program Aide will relate to all adult clients in a positive manner, regardless of age or functional ability. To
support the effectiveness of the direct care team, the candidate should be highly responsible and
collaborate easily with co-workers.
Primary Responsibilities: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain consistent interaction with aging and disabled adults, encouraging client engagement
in all activities, particularly for ESL clients.
• Assist in serving / clearing two small snacks and lunch daily.
• Transport clients ESL clients and others to/ from facility, and on outings when needed, by driving a
van or small bus (no special permit needed).
• Facilitate calendared activities as requested.
• Create and maintain good working relationship with assigned clients.
• Assist clients with ambulation if needed, including on & off vans and in transition between
activities.
• Maintain compliance with Adult Program Policies and Procedures, as well as policies in the
Neighborhood House Employee Manual.
• Assist clients with toileting, personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, and other ADL’s (activities of daily
living) as needed for all clients.
• Assist with set up and clean-up of materials used for daily activities.
• Attend monthly mandatory in-service training, after hours, as scheduled on ADS calendar (FLEX
scheduling applies).
• Maintain professional appearance and adherence to dress code.
• Be dependable and punctual in reporting for work.
• Represent professionalism, and maturity
• Always maintain confidentiality, comply with HIPAA Laws
• Ensure client safety and promote engagement.
• Other duties assigned
Desired Qualifications: EDUCATION & TRAINING
• Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
• CPR/ First Aid Certified
• Salt Lake County Food Handlers Permit
• Valid, unrestricted Driver’s License
• Experience working with aging and disabled adults

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Familiarity with adult day programs, based on social program models, is preferred, as is an
understanding of the needs and challenges of aging and/or disabled adults and their families and
caregivers. A demonstrated desire to care for people, including the above-referenced population, is
optimal. The candidate should be solutions-oriented and able to problem solve collaboratively and
independently, with minimal direction.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Successful candidates must have a valid Utah driver’s license and be able to train and drive a 12-15
passenger van. Other required skills, abilities, and licensing requirements include:
• Must be 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent
• Ability to physically assist clients with ambulating, toileting, dressing, feeding and other client
needs as assigned.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more
• Obtain initial health exam and fill out the needs for a TB test.
• Communicate effectively in English, with additional proficiency in Spanish or other language
preferred.
• Clean background check from Utah Department of Human Services.
• Clean drug screening at point of hire, and randomly thereafter.
• Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel), and client tracking
(program database) software.
