Job Summary: As an AmeriCorps member, the pay, called a “living stipend", will be split up & distributed over the period of 12 months twice a month on the 7th & 22nd until you are no longer in the program.

This is a Full -time contract/commitment for one year (12 months) with a minimum of 1,700 hours.

Upon successful completion of the contract, minimum hours and satisfactory fulfillment of the one year contract, you would be eligible for an Education Award. The Education Award may be used to either further your education or pay on previously accrued Federal student loans.

While serving as an AmeriCorps member, if you have Federal Student loans, they may qualify for forbearance and any taxes accrued will be paid by the National Corporation (Trust) at the end of your 12 month contract. This position also has Health Care (subject to eligibility).

Must be able to pass an FBI background check.

Position Summary:

The purpose of the Operation AmeriCorps member position is to support the mission of Housing Connect by providing quality services to homeless or formerly homeless individuals living in Housing Connect owned Permanent Supportive Housing. The Operation AmeriCorps member will work with the residents, staff and community partners to identify needs and coordinate resources that promote self-sufficiency, empowerment and healthy communities, including but not limited to substance abuse referrals, mental health referrals, employment counseling, financial counseling and housing maintenance.
Primary Responsibilities: Work with and support residents in their efforts toward self-sufficiency by defining goals that are clear, measurable and have a time frame.
Build effective relationships with residents through regular contact in person, by telephone, and in writing.
Proactively develop and promote self-reliance by helping resident’s access community resources. (i.e. mental health, transportation, substance abuse, etc.)
In a timely manner, complete well organized paper and digital case files that accurately reflect services provided.
Attend and actively participate in agency and/or community meetings and trainings, weekly and as requested under the direction of licensed supervisor.
Update onsite employment and resource boards.
Assist with creating monthly newsletters and calendars.
In collaboration with residents, organize, promote and participate in activities within the building and community that foster community, healthy resident relationships, and overall building stability (i.e. games days, fishing or mountain trips, facilitating budgeting workshops, movie day, planning community meals, planning holiday celebration, community gardening, exercise groups, job related groups, trips to local venues, etc.)
Provide transportation to residents as needed (i.e. grocery trips, food bank, appointments, activities, etc.)
Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications: Requirements:

**Must be able to pass an FBI background check. **
Must have basic computer skills, typing and Microsoft Word knowledge. Excel is a plus.
Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record to be able to drive agency vehicles to transport residents as needed.
Knowledge of:

Issues impacting individuals that have been chronically homeless.
Methods and techniques of effective case management and assessment skills.
Social service programs and community resources.
Ability to:

Solve complex situations and diffuse explosive situations.
Approach problems proactively with a solution focused method.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Establish working relationships with residents, co-workers, and other professionals.
Work independently, as well as collaboratively.
