Under the direct supervision of the Intake Coordinator and the general supervision of the Shelter Manager, the shelter cleaning specialist will be responsible for assisting in creating a clean, welcoming environment for shelter residents. Cleaning specialist will maintain a clean, attractive environment through routine janitorial work and special projects.

Clean shelter rooms upon client exit and provide routine cleaning in crisis shelter and kitchen (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc.).
Conduct regular room checks focusing on client satisfaction and safety. Assist in creating a trauma informed environment for individuals and families in crisis.
Responsible for monitoring inventory of cleaning supplies and preparation of stock orders.
Observe all safety instructions and adhere to manufacturers’ label instructions for safe and proper use of all equipment and products.
Adhere to all policies and procedures stated in the Employee Handbook and any applicable Policy and Procedure Manual.
Demonstrate a high level of diplomacy, sound judgment, and discretion when dealing with clients and other department staff.


Complete special cleaning and decorating projects as assigned.
Perform other functions as necessary or as assigned.


Interact and communicate in a professional and effective manner with all levels of employees, management, executives, vendors, customers and external partners.

High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Must be willing and able to pass a Criminal Background Investigation.
