Job Description: The Road Home is seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with psychiatric experience. This position offers the applicant the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population in a variety of settings, to enjoy a broad and dynamic professional role, and to work with a collaborative interdisciplinary team for support.

Background
The Road Home is the primary homeless shelter for adults and families in Salt Lake City. This position will be part of the Road Home’s Family Assistance and Support Team (FAST) funded through a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) (grant-funded); which is a collaborative team of case managers and behavioral health clinicians. This team provides comprehensive services to recently homeless families, with services often taking place in patients’ homes, on the street, or on-site at the office of one of many collaborating service providers. The APRN assigned to work with this interdisciplinary team has the opportunity to form relationships with patients with mental health and substance use disorders, manage their psychotropic medications, provide psychotherapy, and participate in a variety of advocacy and case-management duties in collaboration with other members of the team. The APRN may join other team members to see patients in the hospital, visit them while incarcerated, and search for them in the community when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Sees patients primarily outside of an office, primarily in their homes or other agency settings.
• Provides psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis to patients by interviewing patients regarding need for medication.
• Prescribes psychotropic medication as indicated by psychiatric evaluation in an appropriate and safe manner to provide quality care, following accepted and evidence-based clinical methods and techniques.
• Conducts psychotherapy to improve mental health of seriously disturbed patients by using individual, family, or group and couple treatment.
• Administers psychotropic medication when needed
• Intervenes with patients in crisis in order to stabilize their condition and prevent them from harming themselves or others by utilizing appropriate crisis intervention techniques and by referral to other support services, if necessary.
• Support the core program as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications
• Graduated from an accredited college or university with an MSN or DNP degree
• ANCC certification as Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
• APRN + controlled substance license in the state of Utah
• Federal DEA license
• Appropriate professional liability to insurance to cover practice.
• Knowledge of the theory and techniques of crisis intervention and general psychological principles and concepts.
• Supports and encourages a collaborative culture that values mutual respect, partnership, learning, trust, and fairness.
• Models positive and appropriate professional behavior.

Experience
• Experience working with homeless and vulnerable populations is desirable.
• Working knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Housing First. Willingness to incorporate these philosophies into your day to day work.
