Job Description: This is a temporary Position ending 12/30/2018.

Housing Resource Specialist:

This position will be based at a central reception desk in the Salt Lake Community Shelter where individuals facing homelessness can receive basic assistance with finding housing solutions. The AmeriCorps member will be expected to engage with guests in conversations about housing needs and barriers, and connect guests to suitable housing resources in the community, including online housing searches, calling landlords, and providing assistance with completing applications, among other duties.

Salt Lake County’s AmeriCorps Program places AmeriCorps members in community agencies who serve individuals and families who are or have been homeless. Many of them have lived on the streets or in refugee camps for years. They most often have challenges with mental health and substance abuse. Because they have been or are homeless, they lack job experience and skills to gainful employment. The focus of the Salt Lake County AmeriCorps Program is Economic Opportunity. One goal for this program is helping individuals who are homeless get into safe, decent affordable housing and maintain their housing (housing stability). The other major goal of the program is to improve the economic condition of individuals and families by providing activities that increase employable skills and help individuals secure employment. Complimenting both of these goals is helping provide access to mainstream services which increase client assets and personal financial worth. To help with these efforts, AmeriCorps members will also work to recruit volunteers who can provide services and resources to individuals and families.
