Job Description: Job Summary
The primary mission of this position is to provide housing to veterans in Salt Lake County with the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) team. This position will ensure that Veteran men, women and families that are living at The Road Home, on the streets or in a partnering shelter are supported as they overcome homelessness. The position will also entail assisting veterans in gathering documents needed for housing and benefits, as well as assisting the veterans with location of apartments. This position requires flexibility in both personality and schedule which will entail working some late shifts in order to engage a highly vulnerable population. This position requires a clear communicator (both verbal and written), organized with effective time management skills, demonstrating a willingness to learn and adapt, with the highest standards of behavior, collaborative manner and work ethic. This passionate self starter will work for an agency that is both the state’s largest nonprofit housing provider and the state’s largest homeless shelter where assistance is given to Veteran families and individuals experiencing homelessness.

Duties and responsibilities
1. Identify and target Veterans who are in the shelter and in the community and engage them in order to get them into housing.
2. Document interactions in a timely manner after meeting with a client.
3. Collaborate with program supervisor in ensuring program fidelity, documentation accuracy, and intra-agency collaborations.
4. Provide assistance in housing search, building relationships with landlords, and advocating for clients who are housed.
5. Tracks and enters relevant data on a timely basis and maintains complete and organized client files. This includes entry into ClientTrack and/or other electronic data tracking programs as well as case notes within client files.
6. Facilitates weekly meetings with the Veterans participating in the Veteran Dorm and develops case plans with each Veteran.
7. Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationship with community resources.
8. Provides crisis intervention when needed.
9. Attend weekly community collaborations meetings.
10. Provide resources and link veterans to community resources.
11. Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent required.
2. Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Outlook.
4. Previous work with Veterans preferred.

Skills and Requirements
1. Able to communicate effectively and handle difficult situations with professionalism, compassion and from a Trauma Informed Care perspective.
2. Ability to work independently and use sound judgment within the Trauma Informed framework to make decisions.
3. Understanding of the Housing First philosophy, and willingness to have conversations with clients about housing.
4. Ability to manage multiple projects with demanding and competing deadlines, superior organizational skills and the ability to maintain a quality work place in a diverse, fast paced, stressful and changing environment.
5. Ability to meet with homeless individuals of diverse backgrounds and disabilities; including physical, mental, substance abuse, etc. Able to develop rapport, provide information, and refer with sensitivity to cultural issues.
6. Ability to develop most case plans and specialized casework services with considerable independence, perform evaluation and assessment duties.
7. Ability to negotiate different personalities and work under competing priorities.
8. Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients.
9. Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, organization, and resourcefulness while being team and client oriented and willing to assist where/when needed.
10. Ability to work with community partners.
11. Must have a clean driving record and be able to be insured on the agent insurance policy.
12. Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Physical and Equipment Requirements
Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Must be able to drive an agency vehicle.
