Position Summary: Share the love of winter sports by providing adaptive ski and snowboard instruction to individuals, families and groups in a fun and effective learning environment. Deliver the highest caliber of service to each team member, guest, and visitor at the National Ability Center. Extend the opportunity to individuals who otherwise would not be able to ski or snowboard without the adaptive experience.
Primary Responsibilities: -Attend pre-shift meetings to review assignments
-Work with student’s goals and a basic lesson plan matched to their ability
-Make sure individuals are comfortable with their equipment
-Help improve confidence levels of participants and families
-Spread awareness of the NAC mission
-Make sure every participant is safe and enjoying their experience
-Communicate instructions to students during the lesson, including but not limited to directives, technique and feedback
-Fill out paperwork and assessment forms after lessons have been completed
-Enjoyment in effectively engaging volunteers in lessons and encourage others to volunteer with the National Ability Center
-Provide family and/or group instruction to students with varying levels of skills utilizing a wide array of techniques and strategies
-Implement and supervise safety/risk management protocols in a caring and fun environment for participants, volunteers and staff
-Create a nurturing, positive and professional environment while promoting program policies and procedures among staff, volunteers and community
-Be a positive representative and promoter of National Ability Center programs, events, and activities in our community
-Provide referrals of resources including in-kind and monetary donations
-Commit to continuing education in your field utilizing internal and external resources to ensure our programs sustain continual responsiveness and improvement
-Communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully with all staff, participants, parents, volunteers, management and co-workers
-Be fully present and engaged while at work
-Embrace and demonstrate National Ability Center core values
-Other duties as specified
Desired Qualifications: -A love of skiing
-Intermediate to advanced skiing/riding skills
-Highest standard of instruction skills
-A good sense of humor
-Passion for working with people with disabilities
-Able to attend all required training
-Ability to complete paperwork to deadline
-Enjoyment of working with people of all abilities and ages
-An outgoing nature and enthusiasm
-Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity
-Ability to be flexible, creative, and adaptable to situations
-The ability to use own initiative whilst following established drills and teaching techniques
-Excellent communication skills: Proficient at speaking, reading and writing English
-Ability to provide honest feedback to individuals in a tactful manner
-Bilingual preferred.
-Ability to consistently lift, carry, and load equipment that weighs 50 plus pounds preferred
