Job Summary: The Building Maintenance Technician responds to and assists in general maintenance and cleaning for all public areas, meeting rooms, offices, and other back of house areas of the museum and assists the exhibit team in building, cleaning, and maintaining museum exhibits. The ideal candidate for this position is someone at the early part of their building maintenance career, looking to learn big buildings, big systems and hone their general trade skills. This job will set one up for a career track of managing commercial buildings with large systems with lots of applicable experience for all types of building management from residential to institutional to hospitality to industrial. Some construction and maintenance experience preferred but not required. We will train the right individual.
Primary Responsibilities: • Assist in maintaining facility systems and exhibits, including mechanical, plumbing, hvac and electrical, keeping them in good, clean, safe working order using a preventive maintenance program.
• Light remodel work, including building and patching and painting walls,
• Follow established work methods and safely use various hand and power tools, fork lifts and man lifts, common to the trades.
• Keep work areas neat and orderly, cleaning up immediately after project completion.
• Accurately document work performed.
• Perform all work functions according to written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s,) Work Instructions (WI’s,) and manufacturer’s operating manuals.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Aside from the day to day of building maintenance, this job includes a creative side in working with the exhibits supervisor in the design and building of new exhibits and the maintenance and upgrades to existing exhibits.
Desired Qualifications: • Strong technical knowledge of all building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC etc.).
• Knowledge of health & safety practices and regulations.
• Understanding of budgeting and performance management.
• Excellent planning and leadership abilities.
• An eye for detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• High school diploma; Degree from a vocational school preferred.
• Experience with operating various power and hand tools preferred.
• Communicate efficiently and fluently in both verbal and written form.
• Clean background check, current driver’s license, and clean driving record.
• Computer literate to maintain maintenance reports and equipment schedules.
