Job Summary: Red Butte Garden is seeking a Program Manager to Develop, coordinate, manage and oversee Red Butte Garden’s school programs for elementary, middle, and high school aged students, including but not limited to Field Classes, the Garden’s Grow Lab outreach program, and Botany Bins outreach programs. Responsibilities include developing and revising curriculum, coordinating registration for school programs, hiring and supervising education staff, training new staff and volunteers, tracking program budget and participant numbers, and program implementation.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the work site if they are healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.
Primary Responsibilities: Develop and manage new education programs for school aged children
- Maintain and develop community partnerships
- Garden-wide assistance with special events
- Hire, train, and supervise the School Programs staff
- Help recruit, train and schedule Garden volunteers for school programs
- Visit each school district in the state of Utah at least once every three years.
- Recruit and lead teachers in a four-hour professional development workshop once a month.
- Have proficient understanding of Utah State Science Standards. Write, review and assist staff members in aligning programs to SEEd standards and teaching three-dimensional science.
- Develop and implement a plan to continue utilizing virtual school resources created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Communicate Garden information and updates from directors to School Programs Staff weekly
- Set yearly goals for programming
- Coordinate, schedule and prepare materials for state-wide travel to rural school districts
- Purchase and prepare materials for all school programs
- Prepare university contracts to purchase outreach items
- Prepare and maintain yearly budget ledger for all school programs expenses. Including supplies and personnel
- Prepare annual report for the Utah State Board of Education
- Track participation and provide data to development department and private donors in various formats as needed
- Maintain outreach vehicle servicing and records
- Assist Programs Director with departmental needs
- Assist Programs Department with strategic planning

Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two years of related experience or equivalency. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Strong coordination and organizational skills required to effectively prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. An interest in plants demonstrated either by education or past employment. Several years of formal or informal education experience, and management skills and administrative experience preferred. Must be flexible and a team player. Some travel is required. Ability to drive truck/state vehicle.
