Job Summary: Job Overview:
Under the supervision of the Economic Empowerment Program Manager, the Small Business Specialist will be responsible for working with IRC’s specialized business development programs to provide core business technical assistance and access to business capital to participants as well as other entrepreneurs. As a member of the Small Business Team, the Specialist will also coordinate on small business events, workshops, and interactions with partners. The Small Business Specialist will work an average of 20 hours/week.

Major Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and provide group training and one-on-one technical assistance (including offsite) to new American entrepreneurs with priority for those participating in Spice Kitchen Incubator and New Roots programs.
• Assist refugee entrepreneurs to become ready for business financing through preparation of loan applications, business plans, and financial statements.
• Coordinate with CEO on the submission and approval of loan applications as well as with borrowers with payment challenges.
• Ensure that information required for program eligibility and reporting purposes is collected and that accurate records are maintained, including case files and client data entry. Ensure necessary steps are taken to obtain relevant data in a timely fashion; follow-up with all clients regularly and record all contacts with case notes.
• Other related duties as assigned.

• Undergraduate degree in related field; comparable business experience in lieu of formal business education is acceptable.
• At least two years of related professional experience; building knowledge and experience in an array of business topics, including marketing, management, financing, and entrepreneurship.
• Minimum 1 year experience with small business lending.
• Familiarity with or association with refugee communities in Salt Lake City highly desirable.
• Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across all of IRC’s economic empowerment programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to make presentations.
• Strong computer skills, particularly word and excel.
• Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and maintain responsibility for multiple tasks.
• Flexibility, dependability, and creativity are desired.
