Job Description: Peace House is a nonprofit organization in Park City, UT serving individuals and families who have experienced domestic violence. We are currently seeking a year-round, full-time Shelter Advocate. This is an entry-level professional position working with clients starting at $14.00 per hour with opportunity for pay increases. Generous benefits and health insurance are available after initial waiting period. Understanding, empathy, and non-judgment are necessary! Coverage of day, night and weekend shifts required.
Peace House will provide comprehensive training on domestic violence, sexual assault as well as many other topics pertinent to working with survivors and promoting the safety of the individuals and families we serve as well as ourselves and our team mates.
Starting Schedule
Shift Type: Overnight
Days: Thursday – Sunday
Hours: 10:30 pm – 7:30 am (36)
Shifts will vary to accommodate staff meetings, trainings, holidays, vacations, illnesses etc. The standard scheduled for this position may change over time based on staff and availability.

Shelter Advocate Job Duties

1. Direct Client Services
• Facilitating life skills groups
• Facilitating house meetings
• Education of clients on domestic violence and sexual assault
• Reinforcement of shelter guidelines
• Community resource brokerage
• Answering hotline calls
• Assessing eligibility
• Offering services
• Providing referrals
• Crisis Intervention and counseling
• Crisis de-escalation and management
• Facilitating client intakes and exits
• Client file documentation
• Documenting incidents
• Mandatory reporting

2. Shelter Facilities
• Minor shelter maintenance and cleaning
• Lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Monitoring security
• Assigning key card access for clients
• Monitoring client inbox
• Each advocate will have additional individual facilities responsibilities assigned based on strengths

3. Record Keeping and Data Entry
• Enter client records and program data
• Monitoring client files
• Documentation of all client interactions
• Training documentation

Preferred Qualifications
• Able to pass a background check as required for state licensing
• Current First Aid and CPR
• Strong administrative skills
• Computer literacy
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Ability to work sensitively and effectively with diverse populations
• Some college or other post-secondary education or training, preferably in human sciences
• Experience in direct social services and/or knowledge of domestic violence
• Passionate about making a real and lasting change for the better for each adult and child
• Creative, enthusiastic and flexible—open to change and learning
• Skills in effective communication, professional boundaries, conflict resolution, problem solving, and crisis management
