Job Description: Job Title: Special Needs Support

Job Summary: Responsible for assisting in the evaluation and assessment of speech/language and developmental screenings with the development of a plan for tracking the services provided, results, and treatment. Assist the Special Needs Liaison in collaborating with local school districts in the identification, referral, eligibility, and service provision of children eligible for special education services. Support teaching staff in developing and implementing intervention plans, and the implementation of Individualized Education Plan goals. Must maintain full compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards, Child Care Licensing Policies, and Health Department Codes and Regulations.


Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education/Speech Language Pathology and/or related field required. One year of related experience required. Head Start experience preferred.
Shows knowledge and understanding of the Disabilities Performance Standards, Early Intervention procedures, and the IEP process as stated in the Utah State Board of Education Special Education Rules.
Assists in recruiting children with disabilities to maintain level of total enrollment at 10%.

Assists in monitoring/tracking children eligible for special education, produces monthly reports and data as required, and maintains records to ensure compliance with Individual Education Plans.
Collaborates with parents to ensure they are active partners in their child's special education.
Supports teaching staff with developing intervention and behavior plans, and implementing IEP goals.
Assists in speech and language/developmental screenings throughout the school year.

Monitors 45 day screenings and ensures appropriate follow-up is made for assigned caseload.
Makes referrals to appropriate agencies and follows up according to program guidelines.
Provides ongoing staff training on a variety of special education topics.

Collaborates with teachers, Program Specialists, Coordinators, and Mental Health in identifying and referring students with suspected delays.
Collaborates with local school districts and other community agencies.

Wage: $18.09- $24.88
