Job Summary: The accounting technician is responsible for processing bi-monthly payroll and tax payments, confirming expense claims, invoicing, reconciling banking and credit card charges, and reviewing and processing all payable and receivable accounts for the organization. The accounting technician works closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Controller to develop and manage departmental budgets and complete accurate financial reporting using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles using Excel, MIP accounting software and data management software Legal Server.

Utah Legal Services Legal Divisions

Family Law: ULS helps victims of domestic violence obtain protective and restraining orders, helps parents obtain and keep custody of their children, and assist family members in obtaining guardianships for children without parents.

Housing: ULS helps clients to resolve landlord-tenant disputes, helps homeowners prevent foreclosures, help renters with eviction notices, and helps individuals maintain federal housing subsidies.

Public Benefits: ULS helps clients obtain promised compensation from private employers, and helps people obtain and retain government benefits such as disability, veteran’s compensation, and unemployment compensation benefits to which they are entitled.

Consumer Issues: ULS provides legal services to protect elderly and vulnerable groups from being victimized by unscrupulous lenders and helping people manage their debts.

Utah Legal Services also provides legal support for qualified individuals through our Migrant Farm Workers Program, Native American Program and Senior/Elder Law case services.

Primary Responsibilities: Job Responsibilities and Duties

· Review and process accounts payable and accounts receivable for the organization.

· Assist with invoicing and balancing organizational accounts.


· Process bi-monthly payroll and tax payments.

· Confirm expense claims, receipts and payroll payments.

Account Reconciliation

· Reconcile credit card charges and balances for the organization.

· Reconcile bank accounts and balances for the organization.

Administrative Duties

· Attend trainings and Task Force meetings.

· Complete data entry of account information.

· Work directly with the Controller and provide financial information as required.

Desired Qualifications: Skills and Abilities
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and grant management.
· Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking abilities and commitment to assisting individuals from disadvantaged communities.
· Well-developed organizational skills, attention to detail; time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and demonstrate a high level of adaptability, while working in an environment with minimal supervision.
· Experience with Excel required.
· Experience working with non-profit fiscal operations and allocations among multiple funding sources and experience with accounting software (MIP) and case management software (Legal Server) preferred.
· Spanish speaking preferred.

· Associates degree in accounting or higher from a regionally accredited College or University required

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time.
