Peace House is a charitable organization dedicated to ending family violence and abuse in the community through education, outreach, support services and shelter.
The Accounting Director is a key member of the Administration team and their primary responsibility is to oversee and maintain the accounting and finance areas at Peace House. In addition, the position is an integral part of the leadership team to provide financial reports, prepare monthly grant billings, and ensure compliance with internal and external policies. This role includes a mix of both detailed bookkeeping and financial leadership.
Primary Responsibilities: Essential Functions:

Financial Leadership/Management Functions
1) Act as primary point of contact for all things related to accounting at Peace House; non-voting member of the Finance Committee
2) Perform monthly review of financial statements for correctness and reasonableness.
3) Provide monthly financial reports or analyses for the Executive Director, Finance Committee, Board of Directors and other managers within the organization.
4) Prepare the annual budget with the assistance from the Executive Director and broader leadership team.
5) Prepare monthly government grant billings.
6) Assist with the annual audit and annual IRS Form 990 filing that is performed by an external 3rd party.
7) Ensure compliance with internal policies and grant contracts. Develop, implement new internal policies, as directed or needed.
8) Prepare and give training presentations to staff/volunteers on finance and accounting procedures including event management.
9) Coordinate and collaborate with the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee
10) Member of the leadership team and involved in strategic planning and initiatives for the organization.

Bookkeeping and Accounting Functions
1) Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting. Ensure compliance with GAAP. Stay current with FASB pronouncements.
2) Maintain accounting in QuickBooks for all income and expenses
3) Perform accounting entries for payroll and submit payroll transfers
4) Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, loan statements and other accounts monthly.
5) Perform general banking administration such as initiating bank transfers, tracking bank balances, etc.
6) Manage and track prepaid expenses such as insurance and software subscriptions
7) Manage account balances for pledge receivables
8) Reconcile donations in the accounting system with the donations in the development database monthly along with the Development Director.
9) Record journal entries for in-kind donations, prepaid expenses, expense accruals, stock donations, revenue adjustments, etc.
10) Perform month end tasks to close the books
11) Prepare and submit year-end 1099-MISC and 1096 IRS forms
12) Track assets, depreciation, etc. and enter necessary transactions into accounting system.
Desired Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
1) Minimum 3 years of experience in an accounting role, including both bookkeeping experience and experience working with management
2) Bachelor’s degree in accounting
3) Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
4) Strong organizational skills and time management skills
5) Professional demeanor and self-motivated
6) Computer literacy, specifically with Microsoft-based operating system as well as Microsoft Word, Outlook, etc. Advanced Excel knowledge is required.

Desirable, but not required, background and skills
1) Non-profit background in accounting
2) Experience with QuickBooks or another ERP accounting software
3) Master’s degree in accounting
4) Accounting certification preferred CPA or CMA
5) Current valid driver’s license and vehicle for use on the job
