Position Summary: Sageland Collaborative is seeking a part-time Communications Specialist. This position will work closely with our Communications & Outreach Director and Executive Director, coordinating with the rest of the staff as needed.

The position begins with a 6-month term with the potential for extending beyond this period.

Goal: To create engaging, mission-driven stories and use outreach strategies that increase volunteer and donor numbers.

Purpose: To engage the community in our work, deepening their involvement in local conservation and having a lasting impact on wildlife and habitats.
Primary Responsibilities: Responsibilities:

Social Media
• Within our organizational strategy, plan, develop, gather, and post regular content for Sageland Collaborative’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook/Meta, Twitter, LinkedIn). As part of this work, this position will:
- Work with Communications Director to plan social content and create calendar in work management software
- Create or identify video, photo, graphic, and written content, involving traveling or attending projects, coordinating with partners and staff, and researching relevant content to share
- Interact with accounts and manage comments
- Measure and report quarterly analytics
- Stay up-to-date on best practices and make recommendations for changes
- Manage campaigns and work with Executive Director for fundraising asks

Email Communications
• Prepare regular program-related emails and communications, including training events, project announcements and updates, and project logistical information.
- Work with Communications Director to plan and input timelines in project management software
- Coordinate with staff, partners, and volunteers for updates and materials
- Update recipient lists
- Take or gather photos – can involve traveling or personally attending projects
- Gather and create needed materials
- Assist Executive Director with making fundraising asks
• Assist Communications Director with monthly email newsletters
- Help collect, write, and format content
- Help edit content contributed by fellow staff members
- Maintain mailing list and distribute newsletters

Website Support
• Assist Communications Director with website updates

Volunteer Management and Programs Support
• Assist Communications Director with managing communications volunteers and interns
• Manage volunteer emails and calls
• Support project staff occasionally on volunteer days

Admin/Development Support
• Assist Executive Director with administrative and development work, including:
- Editing and writing development and other fundraising content
- Updating graphics/design on different documents and reporting
- Editing content for fundraising/grants
- Writing content for fundraising/grants
- Supporting campaigns – planning, social media, emails, graphics, etc.
- Event support & planning

Outreach
• Help plan events
• Attend some in-person outreach events
• Help prepare outreach materials

Graphic Design
• Assist Communications Director with graphic design projects for reporting, outreach materials, social media, and website and blog materials

• Passion for Sageland Collaborative’s mission
• Passion for conservation and communicating science to a general audience
• Demonstrated ability to create strategic, engaging written and visual content
• Demonstrated ability to work closely with a team
• Organized and driven, with ability to independently pursue projects and fulfill responsibilities and report on work, sometimes remotely
• Experience in (or demonstrated ability to perform) nonprofit communications
• Experience meeting deadlines and producing quality work
• Social media and email strategy and content creation experience or knowledge
• Creative, collaborative, and strategic thinker; passionate about storytelling
• Background or interest in public relations or marketing
• Demonstrated graphic design ability
• Ability to dedicate 20 hours per week to the position
• Ability to travel occasionally for meetings and outdoor project work
