Job Summary: The McGillis School is seeking an Assistant Director of Philanthropy to join the School’s Advancement Team. This position is a full-time, year-round contract position that reports to the Director of Philanthropy. This is a broad-based fundraising and project management position that hinges on strategic and collaborative partnerships with the Directors of Philanthropy, Marketing & Communications, Admissions, Head of School, and Parent Association Leadership. The Assistant Director works closely with volunteers, including Trustees, to develop and execute initiatives that cultivate an inclusive and positive culture of philanthropy within the school community.
Primary Responsibilities: Annual Fund:
Oversee the planning and execution of the Annual Fund with strategic emphasis on growth and sustainability

Organize Annual Fund events

Compose, produce, and share meaningful donor acknowledgment letters

Oversee Annual Fund reporting and forecasting

Assist in the identification, recruitment, and training of Annual Fund volunteers

Donor Relations:
Create and implement a comprehensive Donor Recognition plan

Draft messages and updates for the weekly McGillis email Messenger and social media channels

Utilize the Giving page of the McGillis website to recognize and celebrate the School’s culture of philanthropy

Collect donor impact stories, alumni updates, and compile accurate lists and data for inclusion in the Annual Report

Assist with the production of Endowment and Foundation reports

Develop a robust alumni network that re-connects McGillis graduates to the School and each other

Expand on existing alumni engagement programs

Develop a variety of methods to communicate with all alumni, including via social media and the School’s website

Work closely with parents, alumni parents, alumni, grandparents, faculty, and staff to foster a strong culture of giving back to McGillis

Act as liaison to the Parent Association as they execute events, communications, and volunteer structures

Support Parent Association leadership to identify, recruit, and train parent volunteers

Plan, promote, and execute all-School events like GrandFriends Day, Commencement, and Back to School Night with support from the Advancement Team and volunteers

Plan, promote, and execute events to celebrate the School’s 30th Anniversary during the 2021-22 School year including 30th Anniversary Gala with support from the Advancement Team and volunteers
Desired Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of fundraising experience, preferably in an independent school

Strong writer and editor

Organized and attentive to detail

Comfortable juggling multiple priorities and meeting deadlines

Ability to work independently

Creativity, flexibility and an eagerness to immerse oneself in the McGillis community are key to this role

Experience in event planning desired (not required)

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Finalsite is helpful

Experience working in development databases—particularly Veracross—is of significant value
