Job Summary: The Director of Advancement at Utah’s Hogle Zoo is responsible for growing and stewarding a base of support by directing all fundraising, membership, marketing, social media and special event activities.

Primary Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Creates and implements a pro-active approach.
Develops and stewards a set of donors at multiple levels to accomplish the goals set forth in the zoo’s Second Century Plan. This includes overseeing the zoo’s capital campaign.
Creates an integrated annual marketing plan, social media plan and earned media plan that drives attendance and enhances the brand, promotes special events and fundraisers and drive revenue through education programs and paid guest experiences.
Works with the Guest Services department, creates an annual membership plan that maintains the membership at an agreed upon level and maximizes that amount of revenue generated from the membership.
Working with the President & CEO, coordinates all board relations and government relations activities.
Creates an annual plan for special events that maximizes revenue and advances the zoo’s mission of Creating Champions for Wildlife.
Oversees the zoo’s graphics capabilities and website management, and donor database.
Manages a team of 8 professional staff that have expertise in the various disciplines needed to implement the Advancement Department plan.
Serves on the management team of the zoo and assist with zoo-wide projects and programs where needed.
Commitment to the zoo’s mission. and conservation efforts.
Ability to work over-time as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintains strict confidentiality.
Desired Qualifications: Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or an equivalent level of experience. Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. At least 8 years of experience in a management position responsible for fundraising and/or marketing. If the candidate’s area of expertise is in one area, the ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in the other areas of the job description.

A proven track record of growing a base of support, either through marketing, sales or fundraising. If the candidate’s experience is greater in one area than another, at least some experience in all areas is preferred.

Performs basic mathematical formulas and calculations.

Required fundraising experience:

Broad understanding and expertise in social media platforms.
Broad experience in fundraising, including major gift development, planned giving, and giving clubs.
Understanding of the philanthropic community in Utah is preferred.
Must possess excellent communications skills:

Interpersonal conflict resolution method.
Effectively promote organization and services offered.
Interpersonal communication with proven results.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Utah’s Hogle Zoo is a drug free workplace. All employees are subject random drug testing.

Work Environment

Incumbent performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities which do not generally involve muscular strain, but do require activities related to walking, standing, bending, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform essential functions. Requires lifting of up to 30 lbs.

Requires a valid driver’s license.

Hourly Wage Minimum: This is a salary position.
Hourly Wage Maximum: This is a salary position.
Salary Minimum: $105,000
Salary Maximum: $120,000
