Job Summary: The Director of Development is responsible for school fundraising, focusing on the annual fund, capital campaign projects, foundation grant requests, and planned giving.
Primary Responsibilities: ● Supports Wasatch Academy's mission, values, institutional goals, and educational philosophy
● Cultivates a development philosophy and culture where gifts are seen less as a contribution than as an investment in the ability of the school to fulfill the mission of the school
● Works with the Head of School and the Development and Alumni team to develop relationships patiently and deliberately to achieve the short and long term fundraising goals of the school
● Creates fundraising programs and initiatives to achieve the school's annual fundraising goal
● Oversees prospect research and identification and works with Head of School to identify, cultivate, and engage major gift prospects
● Responsible for a portfolio of 50 major gift prospects for cultivation and stewardship
● Works with the Head of School and the Senior Leadership Team to cultivate a culture of philanthropy within the school – where staff and faculty understand the importance of building and sustaining relationships with all the school's constituencies
● Oversees parent events organized by the Development Department
● Oversees research, writing, and submission of grants to appropriate foundations
● Oversees the Development and Alumni budgets
● Presents department reports to the Board of Trustees
● Responsible for donor and alumni database
Desired Qualifications: ● Bachelor's degree required
● Appreciation and passion for the mission of Wasatch Academy
● Minimum of ten years of experience in leadership positions in fundraising and advancement, including experience managing a team, preferably in secondary education
● Proven success in achieving institutional fundraising goals
● Demonstrated success with all aspects of advancement including annual giving, major gifts, alumni giving, planned giving, and capital campaign planning
● Committed to collaborative decision-making with a demonstrated ability to build, foster, and maintain relationships with both internal and external constituencies
● Effective oral and written communication skills
● Must be proficient in the use of technology, relevant software, databases, and social media
