Job Description

The Associate Director of Development proactively manages Donor Stewardship and Relations, Exhibit Sponsorship and Grant Writing. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development is responsible for growing corporate and foundation sponsorship and individual donor relationships by identifying, cultivating and soliciting donors and sponsors while managing a comprehensive grants fundraising program to support the Aquarium’s education and conservation initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Identify, cultivate and solicit sponsors and donors by making direct contact with potential donors, corporations, and foundations.
-Maintain and enhance the Aquarium’s Exhibit Sponsorship program, including responsibility for volunteer meetings, cultivation events, printed materials, gift announcements and correspondence.
-Research and plan local, regional and national grant opportunities.
-Prepare, compile, format, package and submit all components of each grant in accordance with granting agency requirements.
-Responsible for all post-award grant administration and reporting.
-Provide support by preparing proposal packages, providing follow up information to prospects, and assisting with solicitation calls.
-Working as part of a team, Identify and develop new markets for fund-raising and membership initiatives in order to increase donor participation with Aquarium programs.
-Maintain and update potential and current donor information in Salesforce database.
-Direct details of annual fundraising gala, including sponsor solicitation, invitations, volunteer auction committee, event budget, and event logistics, including staffing of event.
-Represents the Director of Development as needed.
-Other duties as assigned.


Education/Experience:

-Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
-Must have at least five (5) years’ experience in development fund raising campaigns.
-Demonstrable knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal regulations.
-Knowledge of local, state and federal funding sources and procedures.
-Must use discretion and demonstrate ability to work with sensitive and confidential financial information.
-Ability to work constructively with co-workers, Aquarium members and the general public.
-Ability to work alone and with minimal supervision and to communicate effectively.
-Salesforce experience preferred.


Special Working Conditions:

The position will primarily be in an office environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected and some holidays with advance notice provided.
