Position Summary: Great AmeriCorps opportunity Available as an AmeriCorps Housing SNAP Liaison!

Located in the Utah Community Action (UCA) Food and Resource Centers the AmeriCorps Housing SNAP Liaison will work to educate and assist low-income households in Salt Lake and Tooele Counties to apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and will connect households with UCA housing case management with rental and deposit assistance as needed to help to stabilize individuals and work toward client self-reliance. This position is responsible to work in the capacity of an advocate to identify and overcome barriers to participation in the program, providing referrals needed to help the client and collaborate with the UCA Housing Case Managers to provide housing assistance and ongoing case management as needed. The SNAP Liaison may also conduct outreach and education on SNAP within UCA agency programs and other partner agencies.
Primary Responsibilities: Members make a contractual service agreement committing to complete 900 service hours ending on December 31st, 2022. 18-22 hours/week typical work schedule. Members are provided a modest financial cost-of-living allowance referred to as a "living stipend" of $361.26 per pay period (bi-weekly payments); optional qualifying paid Federal Student Loan Deferment, and will receive an AmeriCorps Education Award in the amount of $3,172.50 after successfully completing the term of service satisfactorily. The Education Award can pay for additional college, graduate school courses, or it can assist with payment(s) of existing qualifying Federal Student Loans.

Desired Qualifications: REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION

A high school diploma or GED required
Must be 21 years of age or older
Complete a background check
Must be a Legal Resident or Legal Citizen of the United States
Valid and current Utah Driver's License and Drivers Auto Insurance
Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Two years of related experience
Volunteer in a pantry for 1 year
