Position Summary: “As one of the Lead Child Development Specialists at Hope Center, I learned how to work with kids of all ages ranging from 6 months to 8 years old. With help from the supportive and strong people that make up the children’s team, I grew my ability to respond to and help young people in trauma-informed ways that encourages independence, trust, and understanding. I jumped on an opportunity to work in another position at House of Hope as the Children’s Case Manager, and I am excited to continue working closely with the children’s team at Hope Center.”

Are you looking for an opportunity to utilize your skills and experience to develop programs for young children? Are you seeking a career path that includes strengthening high risk families, working in the non-profit sector or helping children heal from abuse, neglect, and trauma? House of Hope utilizes the trauma-informed psycho-educational approach with small groups of young children who are residing with their mothers in residential treatment or attending our outpatient program. The group leaders collaborate with the clinical team to create age-appropriate interventions and therapeutic groups for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children in our children’s day treatment program.
Primary Responsibilities: This position is an especially good fit for those with:
- The ability to implement a daily group curriculum and adapt therapeutic activities with children of various ages, needs and abilities with focus on 6-12 preschool and school age children (ages 3-8)
- Experience/training in social skill building, infant development, childhood trauma, or children’s mental health
- Self-motivation and initiative; ability to work independently with intermittent supervision
- Leadership ability and competence in teaching and coaching group assistants to implement goals and curriculum
- A desire to grow personally and professionally in the social work, mental health and child development field.
- A skills set of creativity, patience, energy and ability to help children learn skills in an engaging, nurturing manner.
- The willingness to be flexible, try new things, be open to feedback and handle stress calmly.
- Assertive, respectful communication skills with children, parents, group assistants and other staff
- The ability to work as a team to create a safe, nurturing, consistent environment for young children.
Desired Qualifications: We are looking for someone with:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human development or similar field; willingness to work toward licensure as a Social Service Worker over 2–3-year period (see
- Experience working with young children (6 months to eight years old) and high-risk families
- Good basic computer and writing skills for clinical documentation and record keeping
- An understanding of professional ethics and boundaries in the human service field
- Above average problem-solving skills, conflict resolution abilities and above all, a sense of humor!

Hours: 32-36 hours/week; M-F (8- 4 pm, 4:30 on Mondays)

Agency Requirements:
- This is a non-smoking work site.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must be able to pass extensive background check and drug test.
- If in recovery, must have at least 3 years of sobriety.
- Must have own reliable transportation and good driving record.
