Position Summary: Red Butte Garden is seeking a Landscape Architect to coordinate the planning, design, and construction of Red Butte Garden (RBG) grounds and facilities, and to ensure that all projects comply with university standards, local and national building codes, and RBG departmental requirements.

Primary Responsibilities: 1. Coordinates with RBG staff to identify, define, and prioritize projects, preparing written project descriptions, project programs and design templates, graphic conceptual ideas, and preliminary cost estimates.
2. Assists Project Manager and Red Butte Garden personnel as directed in developing and executing planning, design and construction project requirements.
3. Prepares visual simulations and graphic presentations of proposed improvements and construction.
4. Prepares draft and final graphic art documents for production of signs and plaques.
5. Provides research of construction methods, materials and cost estimating.
6. Performs material takeoffs, makes quote requests and prepares labor and material estimates.
7. Assists in organization and maintenance of project files.
8. Integrates data from multiple drawing/graphic formats (pdf, dwg, jpg) to create plans and maps of Garden infrastructure.
9. Develops construction plans and details for contractor estimates and implementation on small landscape projects throughout Red Butte Garden.
10. Assists in review of plans and specifications for construction projects.
11. Assists with construction observation and inspections.
Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or a related area, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Demonstrated strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required. Current Utah licensure as an Architect preferred.

Department-Specific Qualifications
Demonstrated proficiency and ability to create and modify documents with AutoCAD, LandFX, Sketchup, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office. GIS experience preferred.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate competency in site design, space planning, project development, and construction management, and have a basic knowledge of building structure, HVAC, plumbing, electrical design, and building codes.
Preferences
Preference will be given to individuals with a current licensure with the State of Utah as a Landscape Architect, plus 2-3 years of professional design and construction administration experience. Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and building diagrams.
