Job Summary: Purpose: Under the direction of designated Program Coordinator of Wasatch Adaptive Sports, the lead instructor assists in overseeing and executing program logistics in designated program specialty. The lead instructor teaches adaptive cycling, paddle boarding, kayaking, alpine skiing, snowboarding, and/or snowshoeing seasonally to children, adults, and veterans with adaptive needs.

Wasatch Adaptive Sports is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides year-round recreational, educational, and social programming to children, adults, and veterans with adaptive needs. Snowbird is a key supporter of WAS and houses one of the organization's offices at the resort. WAS provides programming at Snowbird as well as at various other locations along the Wasatch Front. Primary Responsibilities: Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility

Collaborate with other WAS staff, instructors, and volunteers to ensure overall program success.
Execute on-site logistics with students and volunteers.
Ensure safety standards are met within program delivery.
Perform equipment safety checks and minor equipment maintenance as needed.
Fit and transport equipment as needed.
Communicate all equipment and program-specific needs with Program Coordinators.
Teach program lessons according to WAS teaching progressions.
Learn to adapt all equipment to varying abilities through trainings and lessons.
Develop a strong teaching progression by attending PSIA (winter) and in-house clinics (winter/summer) on a year-round basis.
Establish a strong pre-lesson and on-trail assessment.
Track and evaluate student goals and progressions.
Lead volunteer and instructor training in designated program specialty.
Facilitate programs if Program Coordinators are not available.
Communicate respectfully and think critically to promote positive program culture.
Experience Requirements:
Desired Qualifications: 2-4 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
Current driver’s license and clean driving record.
Specific Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years of age.
First Aid/CPR/AED Certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
1 year of experience teaching sports or recreation skills, preferably to people with adaptive needs.
Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
Skills & Knowledge:

Must be competent in Word, Excel, and Google Drive.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong communication skills (oral and written).
Commitment to continuous improvement.
Practice effective team behavior and demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships.
Basic equipment maintenance skills in program specialty.
PSIA, AASI, and/or BICP certification(s) preferred.
Comfortable driving a pick-up truck and 16 ft. trailer preferred.

Working Conditions:

Work Schedule:

Consistent weekly shift contingent on program schedule on designated days Monday through Saturday.
Regular interaction with the public in variable weather conditions in locations throughout Salt Lake and Utah Counties.

Physical:

Must be able to perform outdoor physical work for long periods of time.
Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.
Other/Additional:
Must submit a background check.
