Job Summary: Utah Community Action is hiring a Program Specialist to work in our Salt Lake Head Start program. This is a full time, School Year position.

Primary Responsibilities: Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Family and Consumer Studies; or Bachelor's Degree in a related field with emphasis in Early Childhood essential topics required. Previous supervisor experience Two years of related experience and previous Head Start experience required.

Job Summary:

Supervises, mentors, coaches and guides Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Classroom Aides, and Substitutes in collaboration with the Program Coordinators in the areas of Health, Education and Family Partnership. Sets performance and professional goals with teaching staff based on core responsibilities. Offers skillful, reflective supervision that builds on staff member's individual strengths.
Supports and respects individual children and families' cultural beliefs, including their home language.
Understands, supports, and promotes the children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
Uses The Teaching Strategies Preschool Edition Fidelity Tool for Administrators to support, mentor and guide teaching staff with the implementation of the Creative Curriculum 5th/6th Edition for Preschool Children, PEEP and KEEP assessments, TS CC Studies, and the Teaching Strategies GOLD Online Assessment System with fidelity. Reviews and provides feedback on Weekly Planning forms to ensure the daily classroom and playground activities are based on the interests of the children and their individualized goals, including the DLL children, those with special needs, or those on an IEP.
Ensures teaching staff is familiar with ongoing data collection.
Maintains a monitoring system to track all program activities. Reviews, analyzes, and compiles monthly reports to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations, Licensing regulations, and NAEYC requirements. Ensures that TSGOLD checkpoints and documentation are completed within the required timeline. Reviews with teaching staff the ongoing assessments and TSGOLD reports. Makes course corrections to improve children's outcomes. Uses information to evaluate staff.
Mentor staff in the process of assisting parents with family's individual needs.
Supports staff to teach families the importance of preventative care in the areas of health, nutrition, and mental health. Ensures compliance through a system of monitoring and tracking that the 45 and 90-day screenings are completed within the required timeline, and that notes are accurate and up-to-date.
Regularly conducts classroom visits throughout the school year. Assesses classroom equipment, needed materials, and communicates with Program Coordinator for ordering purposes.
Sets performance and professional goals with teaching staff based on core responsibilities. Offers thoughtful feedback that builds on staff member's individual strengths.
Provides ongoing professional development through training, meetings, resources, workshops, conferences, and provides assistance in obtaining education courses, based on identified needs.

Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
