Position Summary: The Director of Events and Visitor Services position oversees activities at the Garden whose primary purpose is to generate earned revenue for Garden operations, drive admissions, and to market and communicate the Garden’s image and activities to the community.
Primary Responsibilities: 1. Concerts – Direct and produce one of the largest outdoor concert series in the state. These concerts attract approximately 80,000 attendees annually and are responsible for generating 30% of the garden’s annual operation revenue. Supervise the Concert and Event Manager in the staging and production of concerts and other revenue-generating events in the amphitheater.

2. Visitor Services – Directs the Visitor Services staff in the annual development and implementation of visitor services operation to provide a consistent, pleasant visitor experience in order to increase visitation, continually improve the visitor experience, encourage the conversion of visitors into members, and generate revenue from the Gift Shop and other visitor center-based activities.

3. Rental and Event Services – Directs the rental and events staff in the operation of a program that now generates approximately 4% of the Garden’s operating revenue.

4. Financial Management – Develops and manages the Event and Visitor Services budgets.

5. Personnel Management – Responsible for all other aspects of the hiring (Executive Director approval required for the hiring of benefited positions), training, motivating, the establishment of performance expectations and priorities, evaluation and supervision of all concert & visitor services employees, not implied by the previous entries.

6. Miscellaneous Responsibilities – Serves on the Garden’s Departmental Directors Management team and other duties as
Desired Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department.

Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or other appropriate major. Four years experience in one or more of the following: business, marketing, sales, event production and customer service fields, including personnel management.

Must have leadership ability, excellent human relations, verbal and communication skills, and the ability to motivate and supervise professional and non-professional staff.

Experience producing medium to large concerts or other major events is desirable.
