Job Summary: The Director of Residential Services is responsible for the overall smooth operations of YWCA Utah’s 24/7 residential services and associated supportive services. This includes management of a 24-hour trauma informed crisis line, emergency shelter, affordable housing units & round the clock onsite crisis & advocacy supports. The Director develops, implements and routinely monitors, the policies, procedures and practices that underpin the day to day functioning of the program; ensures that staff have the requisite training and support to perform their roles; and attends to all aspects of compliance with contracts, regulations, licensing etc. The creation and maintenance of a cohesive & well trained team who are equipped to respond to client crisis is expected, but this role must also be willing and able to manage & directly respond to critical incidents as needed. At the center of everything the Director attends to is a deep commitment to trauma informed care, confidentiality and survivor empowerment.
Primary Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with the residential services team, and other YWCA programs, to develop, and consistently offer, outstanding domestic violence programs & integrated services that meet survivors’ immediate safety and basic needs and provide access to a continuum of supports as needed.

Develop & maintain a residential services program that is steeped in, and actively provides, trauma informed services & care for individuals, families & animals who have experienced abuse.

Help develop program philosophies, goals, strategies and outcome measures that are rooted in best practice, which will positively impact survivors, and which will strengthen & sustain staff capacity.

Develop and maintain clear internal policies & procedures that underpin the day to day effective functioning of the program to meet survivors’ needs, maximize staff resources & minimize vicarious trauma & burn out.

Ensure adequate staffing for 24/7/365 operations. Provide excellent onboarding, regular training, supportive supervision and team – building opportunities to ensure staff learn and perform their job responsibilities well & in alignment with YWCA Utah’s mission, vision, values & strategic direction.
Attend to staff capacity & sustainability to maintain a skilled & committed team.

Form part of the campus security taskforce to support the maintenance of security systems and promote understanding of emergency protocols

Collaborate with the YWCA Affordable Housing program to extend 24/7 advocacy supports where appropriate and maintain campus community standards

Understand & administer government grants and contracts related to the provision of emergency shelter, ensuring the complete & timely compliance with all program requirements as well as any related licensing, statutory or regulatory requirements in a manner which best promotes trauma informed care, survivor empowerment, confidentiality & privacy.

Support accurate, timely use of YWCA Utah’s client database by all relevant staff, monitor for data quality and be prepared to assist with creation of regular internal and external reports to illustrate impact of residential services.

Contribute to the creation of the annual program budget, understand annual grant goals and objectives and highlight necessary budget adjustments to remain within budgetary and programmatic guidelines.

Maintain current knowledge of research & issues related to intimate partner violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, trauma informed care etc., to strengthen the program’s work and inform future program development

Attend identified community meetings to strengthen YWCA Utah relationships and leverage partnership opportunities

Represent YWCA Utah in selected advocacy/media opportunities

Perform other related duties as required
Desired Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a combined 5 or more years of education and experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in women’s studies, political science, public policy, communications, criminal justice, social work or another closely related field plus 1-2 years’ experience in residential and congregate living settings, direct service and advocacy, domestic and sexual violence services or other related field.

- Or Associates degree from an accredited college plus 3 or more years’ experience.
- Or High school diploma plus 5-7 years of relevant demonstrated experience (listed above)

An understanding of, and agreement with, YWCA Utah’s mission, values and philosophy regarding the elimination of racism, empowerment of women and commitment to anti-oppression work and social justice.

Understanding and commitment to issues of cultural diversity and anti-racism.

Ability to work scheduled hours on a regular basis, some weekends and evenings required.

Must be able to participate in regular on-call rotation.
Proficiency with general office duties, computer systems and technology.

Excellent writing, interpersonal communication, and public speaking skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, evaluate progress, and adjust activities to complete projects within established timeframe.

Demonstrated experience functioning within multidisciplinary settings.
Skilled in establishing effective working relationships.

Ability to collaborate and invite collaboration.
Able to demonstrate skills in effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving.

If driving on business, a valid Utah driver’s license, access to an automobile, and valid auto insurance required.
