Job Description: Job Summary
The Associate Dean, Academic & Student Affairs reports directly to the Dean and is responsible for day to day operations of the undergraduate nursing program(s); developing and expanding learning opportunities for students; implementing university and program academic policies; facilitating continual improvement of the status and reputation of the College of Nursing; teaching; and addressing the needs of faculty, staff and students. The Associate Dean, Academic & Student Affairs performs special projects as requested by the Dean.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
• Provides effective leadership, direction, and support in implementing the vision, mission, strategic plan, and core commitments of the College of Nursing, campus.
• Direct and oversee all aspects of the College of Nursing academic affairs activities.
• Plan, develop and implement program goals, objectives and outcomes measures.
• Maintains standards that lead to or continue national and state accreditation of nursing programs.
• Collaborate with College administration to assign faculty workload and block coordinators.
• Coordinate with the Director(s), Clinical Resources to ensure all academic requirements for experiential education are met.
• Coordinate with Assistant Dean, Curriculum & Assessment to ensure all curricular and programmatic assessment is completed as required.
• Manage all aspects of the grade appeal and grievance process in conjunction with Campus Dean, South Jordan.
• Manage student block evaluation surveys of faculty.
• Manage student academic professionalism issues.
• Track student progress on a continual basis.
• Coordinates orientation for incoming students.
• Expedites student’s instructional and professional needs.
• Develops and implements an effective student resource center for the College of Nursing.
• Maintains and oversees appropriate student databases and academic records.
• Ensures academic integrity and enforcement of university and college policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with Registrar to ensure University academic records align with College records
• Correspond both internally and externally regarding academic affairs matters
• Promotes intra- and inter-department collaboration and communication.
• Assist the Dean in the recruitment and selection of nursing faculty and staff.
• Supervises professional and administrative staff as assigned.
• Recommends resources needed for the College and programs.
• Participates and collaborate with the Director, Admissions & Enrollment in student recruitment.
• Participate in College and University-wide committees, as appropriate
• Collaborate with CON faculty and administration to promote professionalism.
• Provide leadership and constructive counsel as an effective member of the Dean’s administrative team.
• Advises the Dean on long-range planning for the program.
• Represents the College and serves as a spokesperson as assigned by the Dean in matters related to the College.
• Regular attendance is an essential function of the job
• Reliable and timely with the expectation of 40+hours per week on site
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Working knowledge of nursing curricula and familiarity with national nursing education accreditation standards and process, as they relate to academic and student affairs.
• Knowledge of nursing practice regulations for both Nevada and Utah.
• Knowledge of academic & student affairs processes in college/school of nursing.
• Broad knowledge of issues and current affairs in nursing education, particularly related to academic affairs and curriculum
• Assesses and provides recommendations regarding the resources needed to carry out the mission of the College of Nursing, campus.
• Ability to provide leadership to faculty and staff members and students.
• Ability to represent the College to local, state, regional and national colleges and other organizations.
• Ability to respond to concerns of internal and external constituencies in an effective manner.
• Ability to exhibit professional behavior, even in challenging situations.
• Adherence to Roseman policies and procedures.
• Ability to maintain a climate of excellence in teaching, research, mentoring, and/or scholarship.
• Ability to meet challenges of adult students with diverse backgrounds.
• Ensures that the college’s administration, operations, and programs foster a respect for diversity and equity.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple constituencies.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

• Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally recognized, accredited institution.
• Earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline.
• Eligible for licensure as RN in the state of Nevada.
• Prior administrative experience in nursing at a postsecondary educational institution at a level of Assistant Dean, departmental chairperson/coordinator or equivalent administrative position.
• Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in nursing at Baccalaureate level or higher at an accredited postsecondary educational institution.
• Prior experience in nursing education accreditation processes.

Work Conditions
• Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between local campus buildings, off campus, and to other Roseman University facilities out-of-state.
• Performing duties and attending events outside the normally scheduled work hours occasionally occurs and is required.
• Traveling off-campus to a local, state, regional and/or national event, as well as travel to other Roseman campuses or facilities occurs occasionally and is required.
• Incumbent may be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones, office machines, and nearby oral communications among University personnel and/or students.

Required Physical Abilities
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, move from one area of the building to another on a regular basis, sit and use a computer for a long period of time.
• Manual and physical dexterity needed to operate a computer keyboard and handle paper documents.
• Sufficient near vision acuity to read information appearing on computer display screen, hand-written forms, and printed on paper.
• Adequate hearing and verbal abilities to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
• Ability to lift and carry a stack of forms and documents weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Any additional area-specific physical requirements.
