Position Summary: Manages our Urban Arts Gallery and the SouthTown Mall Boutique. This individual will have a passion for the Utah arts community and will be willing to go above and beyond to support that community.
Primary Responsibilities: STAFFING
Train all gallery staff and volunteer (in conjunction with the Volunteer Dept.)
Create weekly schedule for gallery staff
Ensure gallery is staffed during regular hours
Conduct staff reviews, create review forms
Create “daily task” sheet for shift requirement
Communicate with staff daily/weekly on goals, projects, and priorities
Create job description for gallery assistants and volunteers

Coordinate artists for exhibition/boutique sales
Maintain communications with current, regularly represented artists
Coordinate call for entries/submission process
Create call for entries, annual exhibition proposal guidelines/form
Notify artists of whether or not work was accepted for exhibition
Artist outreach for submissions, inclusion in exhibits or boutique
Compile artist bios/statements , images for promotion
Lead Install/deinstallations
monthly, includes:
Reminding artists of artwork dropoff/pickup/dates
Take down of artwork
Spackle/sanding /painting of walls
Plan layout of artwork

Create social media marketing guide for gallery staff to reference
Ongoing updates to gallery website
Send exhibit information to Now Playing Utah, Gallery Stroll
Send Marketing Dept. exhibit, event, and call for entry information for UAA newsletter
Create/maintain “artist opportunity” flyers for gallery patrons
Collaborate with staff to create content and post daily on gallery’s social media (Tues-Sun)
Continue to build gallery’s Instagram presence
Coordinate with graphic designer for exhibit images

Oversee preparation of gallery for events (maintenance/cleaning)
Promote on social media , gallery website, newsletters
Schedule and coordinate staff/volunteers for and during event
Obtain refreshment donations or pickup
Take photos for social media

Maintain and build customer/patron relationships

Inspire a staff dedicated to creating positive experiences for artists & patrons
Provide patrons information about events, artist opportunities, and UAA programs
Discuss artwork/artist’s background with patrons
Obtain patron requests and notify artists of any requests
Notify patrons with particular requests when work comes in
Contact buyers at end of show when work is available to pickup

Oversee inventory management of all artwork under contract with the gallery

Update inventory sheets, artist contracts as needed
Labeling of items with pricing/artist information
Merchandising of boutique items
Add new items to Square inventory
Track sales on Square
Notify artists of itemized sales on monthly basis
Contact artists about low inventory, artwork pickup,monthly checks
Consult with artists on merchandising their work, pricing, popular items, promotions

Handle all shipping arrangements
Acquire pricing quotes
Obtain packaging materials
Package and ship items
Send invoices, confirmations, thank you cards to buyers

Cashhandling/ gallery maintenance

Get change for cash drawer as needed
Oversee daily cash flow, consult staff as needed when numbers are off
Oversee cleanliness of gallery
Pick up supplies or notify Director of supply shortage

Serve as support to SouthTown General Manager
Work at SouthTown once per week to assist with assigning tasks, organizing, and more
Work with assistant managers to supervise and execute regular tasks while not on site
Oversees all SouthTown Boutique specific issues, questions, concerns, etc (SouthTown General Manager will oversee staff scheduling.)
Review the complete UAG training guide with all Dreamers who are staying on as Associates to make sure everyone feels like they can do everything that’s expected of them.
Update all Boutique procedures so that they align with Gallery procedures.
Desired Qualifications: A successful candidate will have some management experience, sales experience, excellent communication skills, excellent computer skills including being proficient in the Microsoft office, Adobe PS, and google docs. Knowing Wordpress is a plus. A great attitude, a love of working with people, and having a good sense of humor are musts for this position.
