The Utah Society for Environmental Education (USEE) works to elevate environmental education and community outreach to connect all Utahns to their natural world. This small but powerful organization is seeking board members who are passionate about the environment, education, and our beautiful state.

We are looking for innovators and individuals looking to make a difference in their community. As a USEE Board Member you will be instrumental in growing this organization for years to come, helping to solve organizational problems, ensuring financial stability and compliance, and committing to ensuring children and adults have access to quality environmental education programs.

Board Members are asked to give a financial contribution that is significant to them and participate in additional fundraising events. USEE’s board actively works to advance the mission and vision of our organization. Beyond giving and attendance at meetings, Board Members should be able to contribute their time and talents to making USEE a sustainable organization.

We work to elevate environmental education in Utah through these actions offering professional development for all educators; hosting the annual Utah Environmental Education Conference; presenting our award program to honor excellence in the field of environmental education; hosting the Utah Green Schools and Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools programs
lifting up the missions of our member and partner organizations; by being a voice for environmental education and sound EE policy; by working to develop an Environmental Literacy Plan for the state of Utah; and by working to center equity in the field of EE to ensure our field is accessible for all.

Skills & Talents of Ideal Candidate: Serve full, active, 3 year terms up to a maximum of 6 years.

Attend monthly meetings and the annual board retreat, board meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6:30-7:30 pm via Zoom.

Spend an average of 4-6 hours per month on USEE, including board meetings, committee meetings, and events, including but not limited to the Annual EE Conference, fundraising campaigns and community events.

Serve on a minimum of one committee.

Work with the whole board on larger issues and financial supervision.

Be prepared for Board meetings by reviewing previous meeting’s minutes, reviewing committee reports, reviewing financials and agenda, and discussion items.

Directly donate a personally substantial amount to USEE per year.

Actively engage in fundraising efforts, including USEE’s end of year crowdfunding campaign and spring breakfast, assisting with grant writing and soliciting silent auction items and in-kind donations.

Represent and promote USEE positively and enthusiastically to others in the community
