12th Annual Nonprofit Day on the Hill

Empowering you to engage your state elected officials in the work your organization does to improve communities around Utah and to advocate on behalf of those communities

The Utah Legislative Session is right around the corner! Come and join us on the Hill on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm! UNA's 12th Annual Nonprofit Day on the Hill gives you a dedicated time and space for you to tell your nonprofit's story to our elected officials. Use this time to share your work and advocate on behalf of your mission and community. This day-long event gives special support to nonprofits new to advocacy. Experienced advocates will benefit by being part of an important day for nonprofits and being part of the community.

 

Preparation 

What to Bring and Be Prepared For: 

  • Table Display items 

  • Information about your organization and what you are advocating for, etc. 

  • Business cards to hand out 

  • Tablecloth (we are not providing any) 

  • Points of personal privilege in the House and Senate chambers 

  • Meetings with elected officials 

 

Meetings with Elected Officials 

Meeting an elected official for the first time can be nerve-wracking, but if you are prepared you shall not fear, and plus, it helps that they are human too (I confirmed it!).  

For these meetings to happen, make sure you:  

  • Schedule meetings with elected officials far in advance for Feb 7th. I suggest requesting them now but do it by at least a week before the day on the hill. 

  • Here are the links to many of our state elected officials you can request: 

*If your organization has multiple locations or are statewide you can either meet with several legislators, pick those from your organization’s main location, meet those most friendly towards your organization, by committee, by a bill’s sponsors, or by a bill you created. Nonprofit Day on the Hill Schedule

  • 8:00-8:45 AM: Setup in Rotunda 

  • 9:00-9:45 AM: Orientation and Speech from the Lt. Governor 

  • 10:15-10:45 AM: Meetings with legislators and table displays

  • 11:15 AM-11:45 PM: Points of personal privilege in the Senate and the House

  • 12:00 PM: Lunch

  • 12:00-1:30 PM: Meetings with legislators and table displays 

  • 1:30-2:00 PM: Breakdown and Departure 

Organization Registration only counts for 2 people from the organization and includes the Nonprofit Day on the Hill Prep day and tables.
