Course Description and Learning Objectives

Your marketing matters. Make it matter more.

Nonprofits engage in marketing that adheres to high ethical and professional standards to communicate the organization's mission, vision, values, and progress toward social change to all stakeholders. The effectiveness of your communications decides the magnitude and duration of your organization —regardless of its size. Crafting a meaningful and contemporary communications strategy will distinguish your message in an already noisy market.

Join us for the UNA the Credential in Marketing and Communications, one of nine disciplines in the UNA Credential Program designed to guide your adoption of best practices for your nonprofit.

Successful completion of the course will give you and your organization:

  • Strategies for creating and repurposing content to drive your readers to action.
  • Information on website optimization for donors, volunteers, and corporate partners.
  • Ways to tell an effective story that inspires action and supports your goals.
  • A variety of tools to support you in your marketing efforts.
  • Information on how to use social media, blogs, emails, and videos in your organizational marketing strategy.
  • The concept of marketing personas to ensure your marketing material is getting in front of the appropriate audience(s).
  • Ideas on how to use goals to guarantee that your marketing plan is in alignment with the organizational goals.
  • A deep understanding of inbound marketing, content marketing, email marketing, video marketing, and social media marketing.

We encourage you to invite staff, volunteers, and board members to accompany you. Expanded participation broadens perspective, builds cooperation, and lightens the workload.

In two days of classroom instruction—taught by our Subject Matter Expert, Pearl Wright—you’ll learn state-of-the-art practices that have been condensed into a format focused on practical adoption. You’ll take this deeper understanding back to your organization and begin to apply it to your policies and practices. Then you'll reconvene at your consultation with our Subject Matter Expert to review your practices and ask questions specific to your organization. Once you’ve documented best-practices at your organization, your organization earns the Marketing and Communication Badge. And you’ll enjoy your success and take on your next challenge with an even greater skillset.
