Press Release: Utah Nonprofits Association Taps Jill Bennett as CEO

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH—Utah Nonprofits Association (UNA) announced its decision today to hire Jill Bennett as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 6, 2022. Bennett, who currently serves as UNA Director of Programming and Marketing, replaces outgoing executive Kate Rubalcava, who informed the UNA Board of Directors in early May of her decision to accept a new position.

“We could not be more excited about UNA’s future under Jill’s leadership,” said UNA Board Chair Liz Dana Han. “We’d initially expected our search to last through early summer, but Jill’s credentials, commitment, and passion for UNA and our state’s nonprofits quickly convinced us that the right person was already at UNA working effectively, diligently, and creatively to advance Utah’s nonprofits. Her demonstrated leadership in building relationships with nonprofits across the state and in advancing equity and inclusion in the community of nonprofits lines up perfectly with our priorities for UNA.”

Bennett, who has been with UNA since 2017, brings a 360° perspective to her new role. Her nonprofit experience—serving on nonprofit boards, volunteering, and working in grassroots organizations—is augmented by 20 years of work in financial services. “The work of nonprofits has never been more important than it is today," said Bennett, adding, "Our communities have been rocked by the pandemic, economic uncertainty, and violence at home and abroad. Nonprofits step in at each and every crisis to help heal our communities, safeguard and educate children, support families, provide hospice for people who would otherwise be left to suffer on the street, find forever homes for pets, seek cures for rare diseases, help refugees establish homes, protect the air that we breathe and the water that we drink, and more. I am honored to serve these organizations and look forward to partnering with them to create resilient communities across Utah."

"It has been wonderful working with Jill these past several years and because I know how amazing she is, I can affirm that UNA is in excellent hands. She is a solid leader and will serve UNA's membership and Utah's nonprofits well,” said Rubalcava.

Peggy Green, UNA Past Board Chair, thanked Rubalcava for her dedication and hard work, saying, “Kate leaves the organization with a stable financial footing, a demonstrated commitment for creating an equitable and inclusive organization, a platform for infusing race, equity, diversity and inclusion principles into nonprofit organizations, and an elevated voice for sharing the needs of Utah’s nonprofits with our elected officials. We are excited to support Jill as she finds new and creative ways to build upon this foundation. The breadth of her experience, both in and outside of the nonprofit sector, and her commitment to the values of UNA—especially in supporting the work begun surrounding equity and inclusion—will be crucial as we work toward a better future for everyone in our state.”
