    Kate Rubalcava, CEO joined the UNA team in January of 2016. Kate has over a decade of community development, nonprofit, organizing and education experience. Ms. Rubalcava has an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and has also earned a Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy. Over the years, she has had the opportunity to blend her learning of social justice, educational equity, and adult/college student development theory with practical knowledge and experience in her work with local nonprofits, school districts, government agencies, local municipalities, residents, and businesses in a way that has enhanced her experiential knowledge of communities. Her career, prior to joining UNA, includes leading Earn It. Keep It. Save It., Utah’s statewide coalition to provide Earned Income Tax Credit outreach, free income tax preparation, and asset development opportunities for CAP Utah. She established community schools for South Salt Lake City, served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the sister-island nation of St. Kitts-Nevis, and promoted higher education and worked to increase community and resident leadership with University Neighborhood Partners. In addition to her role at UNA, Kate is an adjunct faculty at Westminster College in the Master of Arts in Community Leadership program and she is a Finance Committee member for the National Council of Nonprofits.

    Kate is also an active member in her community. She has served on a variety of boards and committees over the years all with the focus of enhancing the community she has always called home (Salt Lake City's West Side). Her most memorable invovlements were her service on the Police Civilian Review Board for Salt Lake City Police Department from 2014-2016 and the administration and oversight of a the creation of a mural in Jordan Park which turned a blighted building into a beacon of color and beautiy. She also proudly watched as her mentee of two years, a young Afghani woman invovled in Catholic Communtiy Services Youth Refugee Foster Care Program, walked across the stage and accepted her high school diploma in 2016. She has most recently served as President of the Board for the English Skills Learning Center. To restore balance from her activities, both professional and personal, she can be found running along the Jordan River Parkway, the 9-Line or the Porter Rockwell trail systems. A lover of movies you can also find her at the theater on five dollar movie night.

  • Professional Development and Communications Manager

    Jill joined UNA in May of 2017 as the Professional Development and Communications Manager. Most recently Jill volunteered at the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center. She brings years of experience in the financial services industry and a passion for social justice, education, the environment, and health and human services - making her role a perfect way for her to feed her passions. 

    Jill holds an M.B.A. from the University of Kentucky and A B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin. When not at work you'll find her in the mountains hiking with her dogs, friends, and family or skiing enthusiastically (but sadly for Jill, never expertly).

    As the Southern Utah Committee Chair and Representative of UNA, Dawn McLain and the Write It Up! team are dedicated to Utah's many valuable nonprofit organizations and their unique needs. Dawn has been working with UNA through her outreach coordination since August 2012.
