Responding to the 2024 Election

Utah Nonprofits Association remains nonpartisan in mission and practice. UNA does not and will not take a position on any candidate or party. Our focus remains steadfast on Utah’s nonprofits and the policies that impact them and the communities they serve.

On election night, Donald Trump secured the necessary votes to become the presumptive president-elect. Regardless of your position on the election, its impact and what it means for us personally, professionally, and as a community remains to be seen.

The needs of our community remain unchanged. Vulnerable people continue to need safety and sanctuary, our children need access to education, pathways for personal success, and a vision for the success of our nation as a whole. Our cultural institutions, air, lands, water, and ecosystems must also be protected for generations that follow. Our friends and families need care and healing. Our communities need joy. Regardless of your personal politics, we all need hope.

This is our time.

It is our time to rise to the occasion as nonprofit professionals, treat others with dignity, and put service first. It is our time to support each other. It is our time to create new pathways for wellness for our organizations, team members, and communities. As Rebecca Solnit expressed, “There is no alternative to persevering.” There is work to be done. Your voice is needed.

It is now time for UNA to lift you up and give you the love, resources, and tools you need to serve your missions and create lasting positive change. It is our time to bring the nonprofit community together to find common ground, support each other, and work together. And that work begins with civic engagement and the power of advocacy to protect your mission and deliver on its promise. Join us for our upcoming advocacy trainings and Nonprofit Day on the Hill, then continue this work into and beyond our 2025 legislative session.

Americans have met this election outcome with a wide range of emotions, from despair to joy, uncertainty and even apathy. Our commitment to self-government, enshrined in the preamble to the US Constitution, begins with “We the people.” As divided as our country may be, we are part of something bigger. It is our calling to uphold a commitment to these ideals through action.
